| BATLEY BULLDOGS v CATALANS DRAGONS
Saturday, 29 May from 2pm (Kick-off: 5.30pm)
99 years of hurt! (Never stopped me dreaming)
Batley Bulldogs are proud to announce that as a result of beating Swinton they have now qualified for the quarter-finals of the Challenge cup for the first time since 1911 – a period of 99 years.
On the last occasion we went on to beat Salford away 18-3 before losing 4-2 to Wigan in the semi at Fartown with 15,000 crowd. By the way our last Challenge Cup Final appearance was 109 years ago when we beat Warrington 6-0 to lift the trophy. That is our dream.
Back to the quarter-final and after careful consideration of all factors, not least the opinion of our loyal supporters we have decided to play the game at Mount Pleasant on Saturday 29th May with a kick off time of 5.30pm. However, we are making this a day of celebration and hope to generate a carnival atmosphere with the fun commencing at 2pm and ending when you have had enough!!
As a Club, we have decided that we must market and promote this memorable event. We wish to recognise it as an historical occasion for the Club and a day when after the event you will be proud to say “I was there”. We hope the whole Town gets behind the team and the crowd become the 18th man against our Super League opponents.
So what have we got in store to celebrate our first appearance in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals for 99 years:
Admission Prices –
Adults: £9.99
Concessions: £4.99
Kids: 99p
We also want to encourage supporters from other clubs to attend the event so season ticket holders of all other professional Rugby League clubs on production of their season ticket will be admitted for £4.99.
Here is another twist to celebrate the fact that it is our French opponents first visit to The Mount – the first 99 to attend dressed as a “French Maid” will be admitted for 99p and be entered into a free draw to win £99 – Ooh la la!!
Bar Prices:
As a thank you for coming and backing the team, all draft Lager, Bitter and Cider will be £1.99 a pint.
Get ‘em in!
Will this be the cheapest beer in Batley?
Remember that’s Carlsberg, Tetley and Strongbow, our premium brands, all at £1.99 a pint.
Entertainment:
A LADY GAGA tribute Act will be our live music, beginning pre-match at the rear of the Glen Tomlinson Stand, so get there early so you do not miss her.
Also, throughout the afternoon we will have music to keep the atmosphere a high tempo and feel free to dance or watch the televised Leeds v Wigan game in the bar.
There will be children’s rugby games on the pitch in the afternoon organised through our Community Programme.
This will undoubtedly be a Special Day to remember so be there early.
Don’t forget gates open at 2pm.
Are you coming as a French Maid?
Let the party begin!

| You know, if work commitments allow, I might just do that one
I went up to Sedgeley Park on Wednesday to see the Swinton (my old stomping ground) vs Batley game. OK, at 6 - 60, it wasn't the result I wanted, but Batley brought a fair few fans across for a midweek game and it would be hard to find a friendlier crowd

| Batley's a good ground for rugby league. Essentially an old ground on the side of a mountain with a couple of modern stands and a pitch sloping from end to end. I love the view out across the valley from the covered terrace.
I can't do this game as I'm in Cardiff all weekend for cricket, but I saw the Batley v Dewsbury Challenge Cup tie a couple of years back. I hope they pull in a big crowd, it should be a cracking atmosphere.

| I hope they do it too. Have fond memories when they came down to play us at Kingston in the cup? (How long ago was that!).

| Just goes to show Homer I am going prematurely senile. You are right. I can remember Buck cavorting about at the turning into the ground so people would know where to go - he got a lot of attention from local people going past in their cars. Could that have been 2002?

2001 I think, seem to recall it would have been the first game under Lionel Hurst as CEO while we were still at the Valley. so much before many many many many many cans of VB were supped in the Brentford car park

... and Wath Brow. They were pretty impressive skills-wise. And I think Justin Dooley made his debut in that game?

The Wath Brow game was Shaun Edwards final Rugby league appearance.
