Mid week is always going to be a bit problematic with our support base spread so far out. Even so anywhere in SE London I would have liked to go as its a good meet up for fans for a drink and chat.Never going to suit everyone though.

Must admit I didn't even realise this race night was on till now, but realistically Teddington on a Wednesday night was never going to work for me. I think these are the problems with organising events across such a diverse area. Perhaps needed to go somewhere central, or maybe do something like a BBQ on a Sunday afternoon so people can get home easily?

Wondered about the venue myself when it was announced. Used to play for the Shell teams at Hamptobn Wick and it was always a bugger to get home after a game......Did the Ladies night earlier this year go ahead either?
Maybe it could be rearranged for a summers evening in central london? Plenty of city pubs have large rooms to hire out and most people will have some form of nightbus option to get home....

As said already..I reckon as the summer(hopefully) kicks in then a BBQ sounds like the way to go...Really feel gutted for Jon..Having said that, I had tickets for a show in London on that night and I have been trying to swap them for another evening that didnt clash with the Race Night......I really want to give him my support when he does the Triathlon in Windsor.You can go to his blog site and get full details...I understand that a lot of the team will be there to cheer him on and lets see if we can get a big crowd of us to show him our appreciation ,have a few beers and raise money for Jons chosen charity the Melonoma fund....

As for Jon, I really feel sorry for him and the players etc who are trying very hard to make his testimonial a success. It didn't help with the cancellation of the testimonial game.
It also doesn't send out a very good message for other players in our ranks who hope to be awarded a testimonial in the future.
Would it not be possible to have a quick brainstorming exercise of solid ideas of events that people would attend,
bearing in mind that time is now of the essence.
Have you all bought Jons' grand raffle tickets - they are punted around the ground and quite a few of the away support take them up.

There will always be reasons as to why people cannot attend a separate event.......instead of all the head scratching why not just get the collection buckets out at the remaining home games, that way nobody has to make a special effort to contribute....or is that too simple?

So what?
Hampton wick is not easy to get to.....so the free venue looks like it may well have contributed to the low turn out. If it was a free venue they needed, then The Stoop perhaps may have been a better solution? Depending on expected turn out, there are plenty of central venued that offer free midweek function rom hire.....but the Lensbury, as nice as it is, is just too out of the way.
Did the ladies night happen? I may be wrong, but I haven't seen any trace of pictures from the night or even a mention on the club site. Was that another Lensbury based function that failed to get off the ground? |

I believe WQ or one of his various aliases posted something with regards to it, not 100% sure though, and he could have been on the wind up. |
