So sacking the coach after an excellent performance, that shows what the team is capable of, is a good idea?
Our tactics were spot on today, plenty of creativity, defended very well. The only way is up from here I feel

Pretty poor attitude to be honest. We've turned a corner today IMO, how about getting behind the team and the coach and hoping for further improvements, instead of playing the same record? I have already happily admitted I was wrong after calling for Mac to be sacked earlier in the season. If he can get the players to play like that on a weekly basis, we have an outside chance of a playoff spot.

| In my view, they've tried to be more enterprising in their play than the real idiot-proof grunge we had last year, but weak personnel and too many errors let us down. With better players and much fewer errors today, everything looks brighter and more enjoyable. And I haven't felt that way after a game for ages...

| Finally a preformance to be proud of. A couple of forward passes spotted by the ref in two of Saints tries and it would have been very different score.

| A great day today all around.
The union game was quite amusing when the RL fans tried to get an atmosphere going by adapting some of our usual songs.
Also the happy hour in the bar from 12:00 til 1:00 was a good idea ( buy 1 get 1 free )
but the best was saved till last - a strong performance with a great atmosphere
ok we did not win but the performance of each player was a level above anything seen so far this season
Kevin Penny was everything we needed in a winger and his support play needs to be applauded
Zero noise from the stains fans until they got in front by 2 scores
apart from KP this is the same squad of players we have had all year when we have not done so well
same coach - same players
I have seen 5 great performances this year when we looked like we were competeing - although we have only won 1 of these games we were still in touch with the other side - This again is still the same squad and the same coaching staff - if luck had been kinder to us we would have been in mid table

I think Kevin Penny made a huge difference by his very presence. We immediately had new options in having someone with speed to aim for. We became more inventive and if the bounce of the ball had been kinder he would have got us more points. While he is here we have pace at full back and one wing. Now Mac needs to get some moves on in training to get the most points out of KP whilst he is here so we can get some league points on the board. He has breathed life into a dying corps and we only have him for a few games.
Did anyone get any feedback from the Union supporters who stayed behind for our game?

| Lets wait and see. After all, sides are always motivated playing the top teams without any help from the coach, and even the poorest teams play above themselves once in a while. Next week'll be a good test of whether yesterday was just a flash in the pan.

| I must admit, I have been disappointed in the way the side have been performing under Mac's guidance this season but yet again David Hughes has publicly stated that he is here for the long term & as such I feel we should get off his back & let him get on with his job.
After talking to many of the current players over the last few weeks, I have not found one who is dis-satisfied with Bian Mac & they all praise him quite highly. I know some will say that they would say that anyway but I got the feeling that they were being quite honest.
On another note, I had a good chat with Henry Paul yesterday & he said he would love to come back to Quin's R.L. in some kind of coaching capacity (Motivational Coach possibly ?).
With his contacts throughout the Rugby League World, what a great acquisition he would make.
Come on Quins Management.
Dig deep into our financial reserves, if we've got any left & don't let this opportunity slip through our fingers !!!

I was talking to a couple of people who suggested we should try and get him on some sort of loan arrangement from Leeds Carnegie during the summer period, but I don't see how realistic that is. If we could get him back in any capacity it would be excellent.
Kevin Penny had a good game, and it was excellent to see so much effort, passion and determination. I do think the proof of the pudding will be the results and performances over the next few weeks.

| We had a group of union people behind us and they had a great time, thought our game was exciting and by the end they were cheering shouting, singing and clappinbg along with the rst of us and decided they would definately be back. Later I spoke to a couple of ladies and they had really enjoyed the game and said they would be back a couple more times this season. Maybe the joint game plan waorks better than we give it credit and maybe we should have a couple a season. If it just brings in 50 fans each time it will help build our crowds. If those 50 fans bring a friend and then they bring a friend and so it rolls on. But is was great to hear positive feed back

Exactly. Today's performance was excellent. As good as we have put in against a top side for ages. All the players looked up for it and most importantly they looked like they had been doing some training in the week prior to the game. Mac seemed to be getting the extra 10-15% out of each player which is what is needed from a coach who is put in charge of such a limited squad. Had it not been for some very strange refereeing we might have won. And the fact that I can write that sentence this season shows the improvement.
BUT it's one game, and the kind of game you would want and expect the squad to lift for - especially given the double header and the chance to impress new fans. The key comes in the next few games, especially the next one as it's at home against a team we could well beat with a performance like Saturday's. If after these games we have similar cause for optimism then I might think about changing the avatar. But in the same way nobody rushed to join the Sack Mac camp, similar caution should be taken to paint everything as rosy after what was another defeat. Perhaps though there is hope

| This season has been one of an abject defensive performance, followed by a heroic effort then back to an abject performance again and in all games prior to St Helens our attack has been pathetic, averaging less than one converted try per half game.
It is the first time this season that we have shown:
A) The ability to successfully bring the ball away from our own try line
B) The ability to break the line
C) The ability to look dangerous without also being within 15 metres of the line
If you look at Hull KR, Huddersfield, Salford and Wakefield, they have all found great joy in simply kicking diagonally towards the corners. Invariably they would find that they made touch, got a goal line drop out or found that we could not carry the ball out. Once we were suppressed in our own half we were easy pickings. It could also be argued that O'Callaghan would often not be in position and when he was would make an error or if he caught the ball made barely any metres with zero clean breaks for the season. This easy option is no longer there as they do not want to feed Kevin Penny. This created great confidence by also removing a weak link who had let in 3 to 5 tries per game each week and replacing him with a player who can run 100 metres in under 11 seconds.
I was genuinely pleased with the performance, although acknowledging that a win is unobtainable when you concede over 30 points at home, so I am not getting carried away. 2 wins from 22 is nothing to shout about but I have made my views clear in the past on this.
Can we be this seasons Warrington/Portsmouth and do well in the cup? I would like to think so.
Cheers
Mark
