If there was no warm weather pre-season training, are there loads of injuries at the start this season because of that?

As with the catastrophic loss of form last season, there are more questions than answers!

Hindsight would suggest that poor weather training would have given a bigger advantage than warm weather training .

I didn't think we'd done warm wether training since Tony Rea was in charge anyway. I thought Mac's preference was always for yomping around the North Downs?

Is it or is it a financial constraint? A free week in a barracks in Kent is a lot cheaper than a week in Spain.

i doubt very much it was free, i have to pay to stay in em and its part of my job, prob quite a lot cheaper tho

They did it last year and had a great start to the season. But they had in other years and didn't.

One of the arguments for warm weather training is injury prevention. Wondering if that was valid this year?

The players paid for their meals through the pay as you dine system-Other than that it was free.

I suspect its also the ability to train for as long as you want without disruption brought about by the weather.

If I recall correctly, we trained in Oz for 1997 and came second, but didn't make the play-offs when we wintered in Dubai.
Which probably means we need to train on the Moon to win it.

Mind as you well know the club used to get slated for poor starts to a season when they went down under for pre seasons.

Vaguely recall it may have been in BM's revue of last year.


Warm weather training is not the way to go apparently, as it doesn't prepare us for the cold weather at the start of the season and has been used as a reason for poor starts in previous years. It seemed to work for clubs that finished above us though.

Mac's idea of a "warm weather" location would probably involve Brighton beach as opposed to an Army camp.

If he wanted to mix warm weather and an army camp he could have tried Cyprus, I think there's still a base out there
