| There is another thread about this, and you obviously cannot read, as he doesnt say that, he says we can be a big giant in super league, consistently performing against the likes of Leeds and St Helens.
Learn to read please.

Actually i'd say Chad's comment was a statement of the bleedin' obvious. He's obviously talking long term, not next couple of seasons; we're in the biggest city in the country with a huge catchment area, and if RL starts taking off with Skolars and the various amateur clubs flourishing we'll have a head start over any prospective local rivals.
Until the late 60's Ajax and Bayern Munich were both further away from being the biggest club in their domestic football leagues than Quins are from dominating Superleague right now - within ten years each of them had won three European Champions Cups on the spin.
Try engaging your brain before making ridiculous knee-jerk comments in future.

| As Quins RL, the club will never have the potential to be any bigger than it currently is. A properly run, independent club, maybe.

Er.....Harlequins Rugby League is an Independently run club that happens to share a ground with an independently run Union Club.
The FulhamCrusaderBronco teams of the past tried to market (yeah...right) without development...now the CLUB are doing both and have the best chance yet over the last 30 years to kick on and make it work.

To even consider mentioning sporting legends like Ajax and Bayern Munich in the same thread as the word 'Harlequins' has to get my vote for most stupid post of the day.
Do you HONESTLY think Harlequins RL will be the next Wigan, Leeds or St Helens?

| Quote ="wire-quin"Wigan play in a shared ground with a "shared " name albeit football. Is that the end of them? Leeds/Leeds Tykes, Hull/Hull football,'" That's not the same at all. Wigan, Hull etc are place names, it's obvious that the clubs are going to hold that name. If the clubs were called 'Wigan Athletic RL' or 'Leeds Tykes RL' then that would be an equivalent. I really feel that there's no way the RL club are ever going to outgrow Harlequins RU in the current guise. Crowds haven't grow at all since the Broncos days, and I would guess that it's just more or less the same old fans. I do not begrudge the club for moving in with RU since they probably have no other option, but to suggest that it's a progressive arrangement for the club is nonsense IMO. There's massive potential for a club in London to average 10,000+, it just needs a proper set up with a decent stadium and stable finances so that it can grow a base.

No.
Wigan and St Helens are small depressing places in the industrial north; Leeds is a vibrant city whose inhabitants mostly seem to have an inferiority complex towards Manchester.
I think we might be the next Ajax or Bayern Munich.

Actually now you mention it I think you are right. I can quite easily see Harlequins RL winning lots of silverware and becoming one of the biggest names in world Rugby League. I think this will be down to the clubs ground sharing, the low crowds, the poor coaching staff and the fact you are clearly just lulling the rest of SL into a false sense of security by not winning anything in any of the guises you have used since the Fulham days in the 1980's
My bad.
I do apologise

| I have to say that i don't think the Harlequins brand does marketing any favours, I think it just confuses prospective fans. Even a slight variation could make a difference. London Harlequins, London Quins? It would at least create the feel of a more distinct entity.
To become a force in SL the club needs a sugar daddy. Someone willing to invest heavily in the squad and marketing. If Quins won the Grand Final and finished in the top 6 for five years running i'm certain that the fan base would grow.

| One of Quins RU conditions in the original deal was that we called ourselves Harlequins. Ian Lenegan was widely reported to have wanted us to be called London Harlequins but Quins RU, understandably really, weren't prepared to have their rather historic name mucked about with.

So we were led to believe, but I never could understand how that squared up with the Union side at the time being called NEC Harlequins.

| Correct. Now surely the League side could be called "whatever sponsor Harlequins" I would be extremely surprised if there is not a sponsor itching to get Their hands on that.

"WIN Harlequins"?
Not sure about that, but certainly better than St Mary's College Harlequins.
