| Quote If I was in charge, I would go to rugby union and ask how they got from an amateur sport in 1995 to be world champions in 2003," he says.
"How did they ride that wave of success to get to a situation today where most Premiership clubs have outstanding facilities and resources?
"We can learn from union, as much as we'd hate to admit it. They market their sport incredibly well.
You know, if I wanted to know how England could become the best Rugby League playing nation on Earth, I wouldnt go and ask English Rugby Union for ideas. I wouldn't ask the English Premier League. I don't think I'd look to the NBA, the NFL, or even Ferrari in Formula One.
I'd look to, you know....AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND who seem to have a pretty good idea about how you play the f**king game!
'"
That LF is an idiot-Does he really think that Aus RL has not learnt from other sports such as American football regarding facilities, fitness techniques etc. Man Utd have been over there. To get senior football coaching badges I believe you have to get involved with other sports. Didn't Roy Keane go to the All Blacks for tips. Clive Woodward was a visionary no question why would you not ask him questions or advice?

| Quote They talk to Tony Smith and he does his best not to suggest Brian McDermott is a bloody idiot, while at the same time saying enough to talk up the English game, he knows who butters his bread.
'"
McDermott was Smiths right hand man at Leeds, why would he think he is an idiot.
The RFL dont pay Smith-Simon Moran does? Why would Smith publicly lambast the RFL anyway- a reasonable and mature employee would discuss any issues in private which Im sure Smith has with is employers, when he was the coach.

| Underlines to me how BMcD thinks. He seems to think all our issues are down to preparation too. Somehow I think lack of talent and coaching is an issue. As for learning from union, I can think of lot of other places to look first.

| Now I know why don't sign any good players.
If Sinfield is as talented as Slater
and Eastmond isn't far off the pace of Lockyer
then Nanyn must have been considered at least as good as, say, Michael Jennings.

| You shouldn't laugh at the mentally challenged but I struggle to read anything that leaguefreak types without thinking this guy is nuts, full of sh*t and fecking stupid.
Probably best to go with the BBC version first rather than getting the one-eyed view of the result of an incestual rape.

| He's an idiot.
He actually makes Brian Mac sound reasonable with his own inane drivel, and to be fair, Brian Mac can talk nonsense.
I'm not sure I'd compare anyone against Billy Slater, or Greg Inglis, but I'd be happy to compare Kevin Sinfield against the Aussie back rowers. Across the board I don't think we're far of the Aussies for talent - hopefully in a few years the likes of Eastmond and Tomkins will be demonstrating progres.. just not now.
And I think I'm right in saying we've won 4 from 6 against the Kiwis in the last 3 years or whatver, I certainly wouldn't be saying they are ahead of us in anything.
I would be lookling at Union. 10 years ago Quins were getting 5000 turn up, and now they're more or less full. How do they do that and we can't? Ditto England, the difference between 1995 and 2003 is shocking - the amount of resources that enabled Clive Woodward to take a backroom staff of 23 or whatever, including a vision coach for goodness sale, we simply don't have.
I'd stick to the post match ramblings rather than reasonable comments if I was going to have a rant.

| That article is biased. Seems to be his blog though...so why shouldn't it be!?
He's highlighted the odd statement and he's then filled in the gaps.
McDermott is right, we in the English game don't have the resources. This means PLAYER NUMBERS to compete....not cash etc, thats where we need to improve.
Also the training facilities etc at some clubs can't be up to scratch with the NRL....but hey, let LF have his say!

| I'd be interested to see LF's reaction if he spots the fact that the lead story in the Guardian online rugby union section, at this moment in time, is one about Brian wanting the England RL job! RU and Brian, he'll love that one.

| Its down to coaching.
Brian McDermott isn't a good enough coach, so he wouldn't realise that. I don't expect him to.
