For those that like a good conspiracy theory, is this why Leigh continued to sign players when nobody else was earlier during the pandemic?

Relieved it didn’t go to us to be honest- I think we’d have been in for a season of getting slaughtered week in week out. Like the last season at Barnet.

I don't see too many other broadcasters fighting for the rights. The game has become a bit to Parochial i suspect for most & this decision does nothing to address that.

One of the selection criteria was supposed to be maximising the value of the TV deal !

Ive no idea, ive not seen it. But unless we are talking 8/9 SL Quality players, we wouldve been in trouble. In the same way we are in trouble if we do not bring in 6/7 Championship quality players now.

RL has to be the poorest run sport out there.

Easy option to give it to Leigh.

We need to look forward now and push for promotion and a full funding when we go up.

What I found interesting from the announcement was that the Lord said they had met 4 times, in total 8 hours. How long does it take to read a 400+ page submission before you move to the other 5?.

I'm still working through my Janet & John book so i'd say Leigh's 460 page novel would have taken much longer than 8 hours. Maybe they saw the size of it they thought they can't be bothered with the others. In any event even if they took them home to read in bed, i would expect far more time to be spent considering it including talking to each club to check out what had been written was true.

Haven't looked to see but i suppose its too much to hope the process is transparent enough for a public explanation of the decision. Is it still a secret as to what weighting the panel were to give to the various criteria?

Not sour grapes, as said, Im glad we never went up. We are miles away from a SL side on the pitch. What gets me is how despite the chance to expand the game, we end up with another team, pretty much slap bang next to the other teams we have!!! This isnt growing the game is it??

Thinking about it overnight, matbe this was the sensible decision. Hopefully coming out of what has been a train wreck of a year 21 is not really the year to be thinking about expanding.
On the flip side, non of the options were real expansion, even toulouse is in french RL area and they have been around for a lot longer than us. Leigh have a decent fan base and a decent stadium, logistics for other clubs playing their much easier than a second French team, we know it cost Bernard in Catalans 50k a game in travel.
I know it was not meant to be part of the criteria but might have been in the background.
As for central funding yup thats just greed fom the other 11 and that needs sorting in the future

In truth they have set Leigh up to fail. It will be nice if they manage to stay up so that one of the eleven gets relegated.
It is not a good look for Super League and shame ion them for doing it.
Just as a thought, I wonder what Sky's opinion of this matter is. Considering Mr Elstone has to sit down with them to negotiate the new TV deal.

IF Super League did try and impose a lower payment to the promoted team than given to the eleven teams who retained their place.

The amount of folk who attend a game and what "that brings to the game" is mostly irrelevant. We have just had a season with attendances for every club of zero.
Atendances are about clubs finances and ability to operate nothing else.
The last 12 months have just proved that.
Basically 20000 or 20 in the stadium makes no difference to the product on the field.
Where numbers do come in is things like CC final and what happened when catalan got there.

Well, if your going to force a team to compete with 11 other clubs who are gonna get 80% more than you in TV Revinue, then it makes sense to at least minimalise their travelling expenses! Bloody Scandalous that they've been allowed to do it, to Leigh or anyone else!
