Firstly, Everything on here is opinion! Secondly, our whole supporter base initially at Fulham was largely Fulham FC season ticket holders which then picked up even more London football fans. Our first match in SL at Charlton in 1996 had 9K+ in attendance, largely through advertising to football fans. We have chased the Union market too long and with what results? Football is over-priced in London and if we had an attractive, winning side we WOULD pick up floating football fans if we were based at a soccer club. No this is not gospel, just opinion based on 33 years of watching RL in London.

I don't believe the club should target fans of any particular game, but instead, general SPORTS fans. Although I held a ST at Celtic between 1983-1992, by 2002 when the Broncos moved to Brentford, I was basically an Armchair SPORTS fan. I moved my family to Brentford in 1996.....I attended 1 soccer match there that year and that was it....until the Broncos moved in.....I liked the "family/community" feel of the matchday experience, obviously the beer in the stands and the willingness of people to explain the rules etc to a newbie like me. Sadly, most if not all that "ambience" had been removed by the time I flew south
Soccer fans are just that......soccer fans. With the exception of a few hundred, many only attend home matches, they have a long and rich history to fall back on when results are bad and they generally have an "us v the world" mentality.
London Broncos have never had the chance to build on a "history" through name or location....and name and location are the 2 things you need to have consistently if you're going to build a history.
Wherever they move to the club need to understand that they are not entitled to receive a welcome from the locals.....it is the clubs responsibility to go out and meet their new neighbours, to invite them to come to games and to make sure that they are well looked after when they do attend. Giving the landlords other customers a free ticket to game 1 and expecting them to come back doesn't work.

That is not the same thing as football fans being attracted by RL. It is a difficult thing to prove because football is so popular, of course people are also going to have a football team they follow. If the link is that tenuous then why not just say all rugby league fans were football fans first?!

| If RL is so attractive to football fans, how come we didn't build our crowds when we were playing at Charlton? Charlton were getting crowds of around 20,000 at the time and we didn't appear to pick up a single fan (our first home game in 2000 had a gate of 2,856 and the last game in 2001 had 2,854 attending.)
Ditto Brentford...the reason we had some half reasonable gates at GP was because the team was winning. Winning our home games is still the major key to building interest and sadly, we have not been able to do that.
Re RU fans, I have met many QRU fans over the years we've been at The Stoop...some have become regulars at the RL games, many not.
People have generally lost heart with us because of the stuff being dished up on the pitch...not only are we a losing team, but over the last few years, we have had too many non-performances and capitulations.
Things are never going to change until we can get a consistently performing team on the pitch, imo.

| here is an interesting true comment overheard in the stand at a recent football game in the Ryman South last Saturday.
See London Broncos played at Wycombe? Loved the game last year at the Gills and wonder if they are going there again, it is better than watching this lot!
I was sat two rows in front and the discussion went on for about 5 minutes how they liked watching Robinson, Offiah and the merits of the game. Not staying they would become regular fans but what I heard suggests there is a level of knowledge and support for the game among some football fans.

| Quote ="Dan Stains woz God"Things are never going to change until we can get a consistently performing team on the pitch, imo.'" That's the key IMO, a no-brainer in fact. No hope of wider success in a "new" market without offering something that people will want to see. Though even on-pitch success hasn't been enough in itself in the past, plenty of back-up resources (like marketing) also needed of course. And that's no guarantee of success either - look at all the dollars that went into NFL Europe with no significant lasting effect. And RL just doesn't have that kind of money.

| 2nd in SL, CC Final, 2 Play-off appearences......barring the name change in 2006, they all have one thing in common......we got LESS fans the following season.
YES....a performing team is important, but it's worthless without the proper infastructure and marketing campaigns to make serious gains.

| The year we made the CC was a poor year for us by our standards in the SL era.
A lot of people got jacked off as early as 99. Wembley was huge and loads of people appeared from nowhere. That was the chance to start the database of fans as GF has suggested in the past.

Branson was (wrongly) convinced fans would flock to games andall he had to do was stick posts in the ground......and since then, every man, women and child associated with the club (that I have had dealings with) has acted like this will still happen.
...all I (we) can do is pray that 20% of Mr Hughes money if not 25% or even 30% for 2014 will be used to invite our new neighbours to come and see what we have to offer...

last discussion I had regarding data (circa 200icon_cool.gif there were 2 lists..one from the ticket office and one from general collection of data....nobody at the club knew how to merge these or really what to do with them.
I reckon that when it is announced where we are moving to, every single person we have details for should be sent 2 free tickets to the first game.....and that's just for starters.

| The Orient announcement was 1,500 free Season Tickets to 14-18 year-olds and students aged 18-21. A very, very good idea for a side that faces competition from Premier League clubs. It could/should be a marketing campaign for the Broncos. Why not just say that there is 1,500 adult season tickets for new people priced at £50? What other sports side from a top league has done that? It's drastic but the club needs to do something.
Also, Broncos asked to use Orient for the Bradford game again but they decided against it because their pitch wasn't suitable.

| Orient would be a Super League standard. It is Wembley compared with Esher.
They said their pitch wasn't suitable due to the state of the pitch, nothing to do with anything else.
