Why is everyone surprised. It was stated in a post half way through season that all those with a contract ending in 2013 was not being renewed. More worrying is those with contracts still for 2014 moving on. Though given performances how many will be actually missed.

That said this club has never been good at announcing any signing early in the year to start to entice demand for season tickets, replica shirts (though they are only ready for Easter) or any sense of enthusiasm. Dan Sarginson has definitely signed for Wigan. Ran into his dad and brother after the Challenge Cup Final, they were adamant it's a done deal.

Yes, but it would have happened anyway most likely, I feel he needed a little more developing & may have then got an even better deal, how many first team matches do you expect he will get next season? depends what a player wants to do playing.

I wish Sarginson well, but he is light years behind any of the Wigan second or third choice backs at the moment. Still, if Wigan have seen anything in him, they certainly know what they are about.

Dan S needed to move on if he was to develop, he needs someone to overhaul his defensive game and its clear we don't have that capability. So before he ends up as another player who never quite reached his potential because of the limitations of our coaching and squad development he had to go.

The issue now is that we need at least six top quality signings to be competitive in the lower half of SL next season, and I fear we won't get even one, at best we'll end up with a bunch of championship standard players. Most of the players we're losing are not great losses in themselves, but if we're not getting anybody better it's a major problem. To get into the playoffs we probably need ten top quality signings for next season and that's cloud cuckoo land stuff.

Good luck developing when you're not playing SL level football. It doesn't work. At his stage he needs to be playing first team football every week and I cant see that happening at Wigan.

Fully agree! it's Super League action that is needed, not the reserves.

It's coaching that he needs, alongside an appropriate amount of game time. Simply playing in SL week after week without the off-field help hasn't done him any good over the last two years. If Wigan's coaching staff can't do anything with him then no-one can. Good luck to the lad.

I hope we've been sensible enough to offer him a new contract though, otherwise he'll go without a transfer fee.

Will Sharp....Omari Caro...he'll be playing in the Championship before you know it.

He might well spend some time in the Championship, but it will be part of a planned and thought through learning process devised by his coaches at Wigan. And he'll become a better player there than he ever would by just being dumped into SL and left to sink or swim by London Broncos.

I don't think Dan Sarginson will ever play for England, but he'll be a very good SL player.

If you look at Sam Tomkins, who came through at Wigan on debut here, he was a skinny kid with a bit of talent and one that looked capable of being really very good. With great support from the Wigan club to help him enhance his physique and conditioning, he has maximized his full potential.

When you looked at Sarginson in his early games away at Salford and Gateshead he too was a skinny kid with a bit of talent and looked very capable of being a top player, especially given the dearth of quality backs and half backs in English Rugby League.

However Sarginson looks physically almost the same as when I first saw him. Two years ago he looked like a 17 year old boy with his pencil thin wrists and at least a stone underweight. Today he looks the same. This is not what you need to play regularly in a collision oriented sport.

I think if he spends 2-3 years at Wigan on the weights and playing parks football at Swinton or somewhere similar then he could be a regular first teamer in the future. But I'm not bothered whether he is successful or not really. I used to think he was a really decent kid. Now I just think of him as someone happy to spend many years in our development squad to purely benefit himself. He turned down a 4 year deal with us last year, well before the main problems aside from Powell of course.

Louie and Tony Clubb have spent enough years here to be well regarded even after they leave but those who were fringe first teamers who left for more money have all been bitten on the so far.
