| Quote ="Jim Pooley"It is far easier to engage with or to FEEL engaged with when you are dealing with miniscule numbers. London Broncos have gone from being the hosts at a full on banquet to becoming one of the 5 contestants on come dine with me.....and as for engagement with the fans, I hear the coach to Halifax was Rammed Full.
Drone
...
engagement is the club putting on the coach and arranging for multiple drop off points enabling fans from all over the city to get home at a reasonable hour. I think the fans themselves were possibly the last people to book and to fill a full sized away coach for fans with paying fans, but the club can't even give it away.....but they've engaged the clique on here, that's for sure
As for the Hive and the Match Day Experience, I believe the Hive is a perfect little ground for the little club we have become, but that will never change my opinion and that held by the thousands of stay away fans, that the fact we are now such a little club is down to the utter mismanagement under the reign of David Hughes. I enjoyed the game day experience, especially as my daughter drove me there, but if it were a fortnightly trek via Public Transport, I have to say I'd probably pick and choose the games I went to if I Still lived in London so long as the club weren't in SL.
By the way, your patronising tone in regards "actually attend" games does you no favours. Helen Keller could tell you that we have an average of 650, about half of last years and about 15%
Drone
of the average we had when Hughes took sole control of the club, that we are now playing 2nd tier, sorry, mid table 2nd tier Rugby League and that there are very strong murmurings that we will once again be moving to a new "home' at the end of this year....she would neither need to be there, nor would she have to have use of her eye's, ears or vocal cords to understand that the smaller the fan base, the more engaged they feel.'"

| That would be the Joey Grima, assistance coach at Parramatta, Cronulla and St George? Park footie coach?

| And I'm sure that if you pop down and let the Warriors under-20's coach know he's a park footie coach he'll be OK with that - which is what Joey was primarily doing as I understand it. I also believe he was recommended by Jamie Soward. I know he inherited a scratch squad with no pre-season in SL, which I doubt Wayne Bennett could have done a lot with. As a note, we beat Skolars in the friendly, so 1 from 3.

| Joey did seem to be out of his depth. To be fair he inherited a squad in SL that was full of talent but thrown together at the last minute so had missed pre season fitness and skills training.
On the flip side some people are good at being assistants (coaches) and struggle with the step up to head coach where you pick up additional duties including managing a number of coaches, press conferences, contract issues, interacting with the club board, creating a club culture and tone...........
He was a nice guy with a high moral standing and probably a very good choice to work with youngsters.

| Quote ="Jim Pooley"I'd actually put it down to Steve Devonshire myself.....the level of 2-way dialogue since he's been back is the best since the 2007 season.'" Of course you put it down to Steve Devonshire, but that says nothing about who at the club interacts with the fans, and everything about how you interact with the club. Your relationship is an entirely virtual one, so you will only see the interaction via electronic media. You will claim to be able to comment on the match day experience because you read match reports and watch highlights. But they won't tell you who was out on the pitch after the game encouraging players to walk over and acknowledge the fans after many years of that not happening. They won't tell you was encouraging the players to come into the bar to talk and engage with the fans after several years of that not happening. And let me give you a clue, it wasn't Steve Devonshire and it wasn't a cabbage, it was Joey.
Quote ="Jim Pooley"Let's just agree to disagree on how and why this re-engagement happened.'" So of course when you realise you're out of your depth you resort to deflection tactics. Because "let's agree to disagree" actually means "of damn it, I can't really argue about how people behave on matchday because I'm not there"
Quote ="Jim Pooley"the players AND THE COACH have no excuses for it.....he was out of his depth.'" I reserved judgement on his coaching abilities because he wasn't there long enough. And I still reserve judgement.
Quote ="Jim Pooley"Come on. There's only a handful of you
'" And so we get to your latest obsession, that we are all a cosy little clique with David Hughes. I'll repeat what I said before, which you deliberately ignored because it was inconvenient. David Hughes doesn't come in the bar. He has no idea who I am. He has no idea who most of the membership holders are. If we didn't have Broncos shirts on he'd probably assume we were involved with Barnet FC.
Quote ="Jim Pooley"You've probably heard it already, but the story of how the final disengagement between players and fans happened was when Powell asked Mackay if the players could be excused going into the bar after games and after asking Hughes, permission was given.'" So I talk about who helped re-engage with the fans, and you go back to talking about who stopped it in the first place. Let me spell this out for you. We know who stopped the engagement with the fans. WE WERE THERE. WE SAW IT WITH OUR OWN EYES. Repeating it ad infinitum informs no-one and will change nothing that has already gone. Powell and Mackay are long gone, why are you still indulging in Gustalgia?
Quote ="Jim Pooley"Hughes employed MacKay and Powell.........the prosecution rests M'lud!'" Prosecution for what???? I praised Joey Grima for helping re-engage the fans and you come up with an utter irrelevance. It's not relevant to what I wrote, it's not relavant to the thread.

| So.....to clarify. You are adamant that grima wasn't at the club long enough to be judged as a coach, but you 100% put down the reconnection with fans as his doing? You are not one ofva comparative handful of remaining fans but consider your opinion stronger than nine because you are there.
All I'll say is that if this reconnection is so good and you're not a clique, then how come the other 3,000 missing fans haven't flocked back? Grimas job was to coach, then select and coach a squad of professional rugby league players and in that he 100% failed.....everything else is just window dressing

I've underlined the relevant bits that you accuse me of twisting....the last sentence is an observation made from the facts available, as in we're down shed loads of fans and he won 2 competitive games in 19 meaning he wasn't a very good coach.......not a case of me mis-representing anything.
I can dance this dance all day and night with you. What gets your back up was that regardless of the repetitiveness and negativity of my posts, I was spot on in my predictions. Long term fans of the club, with 3+ times the years I have are declaring that this is it for them, but you'd rather scream loud and accuse me of lying rather than accept that I was and am right in this instance. Go on.....complain to a moderator. It's all your good for.

1. You incessantly continue along the lines of "gutterfax = personal abuse" when in fact, other than maybe a dozen times in 20,000 = posts he did no such thing....but you do so hoping toattract the attention of a passing moderator. So you do whine to the authorities!

| I really do not know why people are rattling on about Joey Grima. He was probably a decent man, but I think he was not the right man to coach our club.
I am glad he has gone, much prefer Hendo.
Joey Grima to me, is just another name to add to the list of poor appointments made by David Hughes.

| It's a long line of assistant coaches taking over since our slow and torturous decline beginning 2006. Tony Rea leaves to be replaced by his assistant coach Brian McDermott. Brian McDermott leaves to be replaced by his assistant coach Rob Powell. Rob Powell sacked and Tony Rea re-appointed (assistant coach with the Brumbies union team at that point) then leaves unexpectedly mid season. His assistant coach Joey Grima appointed then leaves unexpectedly mid season. His assistant coach Andrew Henderson appointed.... so you get the picture... there are a lot of assistant coach's taking the role of head coach in those painful 9 years.

| Of course it could be argued that the role of assistant coach is an apprenticeship for the head coach role, and that these promotions were all part of the normal way of things. But then again this is London Broncos, and the normal order of things is ill thought out, panic appointments.
I suspect part of the problem is that head coaches with bona fide credentials simply aren't interested in taking the job.

| I would rather have an assistant coach promoted to head coach, than take on some has been coach who has failed at other clubs.
However we have not been in a position to take on a coach who is at the top of his game. We have to give someone early in his managerial career a chance.
That is the market we are in.

True, but in Hendo we seem to have a bit of a gem. Hoping that none of the bigger clubs are keeping tabs on him.
