Quote ="nadera78"I know I've said this before but I'd play Clubb at prop. He still can't read attacking players in front of him out wide, and moving him one in to 2nd Row won't change that because he'll still be faced with options and have to make quick decisions.'"
I would agree that Clubb's lateral defence isn't outstanding but I also think many of his loudest critics have had a tendency to wrongly blame him for being left exposed by forwards inside of him being sucked in and leaving a hole, to an extent this didn't happen to him as much this year as last and consequently he took less blame for what was never really his fault. A significant problem he has had, as in down to him and not those inside of him, has been shooting out of the line, but again I think he's improved on this and has become more disciplined. Now there is every chance that as a second-row he'll be just as likely to sucked in and leave a gap, but at least if there's any consistency the critics will blame the centre.
As it is I think his lateral movement and awareness is good enough to be an effective second-row and his speen and strength and experience are better suited to running wide down the centre channels in attack. Although this somewhat presumes we have a strong enough side to make use of those attributes.

Stick him in the middle where he won't have to do that and just tell him "if it moves, hit it". With his size and strength he'd cope with the physical demands of playing at prop, and his pace will give him something few other props have.
Lots of other players have done it. Gary Mercer went from winger to 2nd Row to prop, and did so very successfully. I think it would be the making of Clubby.'"
In time he may become a prop, but I'd rather make use of him as a second-row whilst he has the speed to do it.
