| If Rob Burrow had kicked all the conversions (and this assumes that there weren't any penalties in the mix!) then that would have equalled our highest number of points conceded in a game and would also have been our record losing margin. The club would appear to be imploding rapidly - don't write off the opinion of the RL jounalists on our future, they can be privy to information that isn't published.

| Its not just the number of players we are missing but who they are. I'm no great fan of McDermott but I do wonder if other coaches would be doing much better at the moment. With Melling, who is not a stand off, and two 17 year olds in the key half back positions, as we had yesterday, we are going to struggle against anybody.

I agree we look lightweight but I would suggest that the first choice pack is also missing Ellis and Robinson (and possibly James).

| ahh we may have signed Nobby
only problem is would we have been happy moving the club to within daily commute distance to Bradford area???
Does anybody seriously think he would have gone to Crusaders had they been staying in Bridgend?
Back to the basic issue
we could have the best coach in the RL world here, BUT WE DONT HAVE THE SQUAD TO COMPETE THIS YEAR
its a simple fact, look at the players we have, Danny Orr Chad Randall, Melling and Sharp thats 4 out of 13 on the field Ok LMs is promising but be serious
We need cash not a new coach

Sadly that really is the case. While clearly the coach is struggling, the best coach in the world could not turn this lot with the budget we have into much more than we are today
Very sad but when the General Manager is going in the press to say we are in danger when it comes to licence time then we are in big trouble
I cannot help but believe Quins RL is dying a slow death and I suspect no-one out there at the moment has a cure

| Mac must be as frustrated as us. He is probably under huge financial constraints in addition to the massive injury list. Lets not forget he is an employee of the club and is hardly going to lambaste the chairman, club or players publicly.
A forum would be good as Windy mentioned

Simple. He has a contract till end of 2011. We almost certainly couldn't afford to pay him off and even if we did, no other coach with half a bit of sense would take the job on with the club in its present state.

| Just posted this on VT but thought I'd get a quicker response on here.
This aimed at the Quins RL fans.
How much of an effect has the name 'Harlequins' had? Has it led to a loss of fans/spectators who follow a union team other than Quins RU?
If Harlequins RL did go into the Championship would it enable them to build a strong academy, give the younger lads first team action and allow the fans to see a winning, competitive team?

| McDermott has had some pretty decent squads and the best finish he has managed is 9th. Do you think we were under "huge" financial constraints when we were paying wages for the likes of Scott Hill and Henry Paul?
I've come to the conclusion we manage what cap we have to spend really badly. Think of the number of players who have signed and either left without playing a game or barely played over the last two seasons:
Robinson, James, Grayshon, Gardner, Nanyn (I'm sure you can add your own…)
Combine the salaries and we easily afford a player who could make a difference:
I'm not saying there's an exact science to signing players (clearly there is not and some of it is luck) but we seem to make a habit of being spectacularly bad at it and it happens too often for it just to be luck (Haumono, Faumauina, Villasanti, Fa'afili, Robinson)

Easy tiger, it was only a question!
One difference with the examples you gave is that while adding a moniker (eg Wolves, Reds, Warriors) the clubs kept their traditional names (eg Warrington, Salford, Wigan).

| This club has been called-Fulham, London Crusaders, London Broncos and Harlequins-This name change isnt the first.
How did Eastern Suburbs suffer when they became Sydney City Roosters, similarly Western Magpies when they became West Tigers,

Roosters still struggling for crowds and now financially.
Wests Tigers was a merger and have since won the Grand Final.

If you spent all of that money on one player and he gets injured, what then? Its easy to say we have had rubbish from the lower divisions, which we have, but with the limited finances available Mac has to create a 25 + man squad. If only we could unearth a Lunt or similar from the championship it would be great.
If he had readily available funds do you not think he would have gone and brought a player or 2 in with the funds made available from Robinson leaving for example. Its clear we are not spending like we have in the past- Hill, Paul, Mclinden etc would have all been on 100K plus you would expect, who have we brought in since their departure who will be taking that 300K? Its simple maths

| Injuries happen. If a quality player gets injured then it is a blow, but when fit and able to play they will make a difference. To me if you have limited funds it is better to have a sprinkling of class rather than lots squad fillers who never play at all, or play 20 minutes in a season (which has happened!). We might as well just go with a smaller squad and rely on loans if/when they are needed.
Of course McDermott would probably like to be able to spend more on the squad now. But that wasn't my point. My point was that when he did have money to spend the best finish he achieved was 9th.

| Quote My point was that when he did have money to spend the best finish he achieved was 9th.'" with principally a team he inherited from a coach that was removed from his post due to underperformance.
Subsequently with less funds and the need to offload players we have deteriorated in terms of position -which I think even you would expect to happen
Lets think all of this through logically because I think possibly, maybe wrongly you dont understand where Im coming from- Look at the Warrington squad with a wealth backer who spends the full salary cap-compare that team man against man, position against position -what do you see?
Do you not think McDermott would not love to have players of that ability at his disposal? Do you see where Im coming from? Equally as an employee he cant come out and say the chairman is an XX as he will become unemployed very quickly.
Its difficult times

....disagree.
DH is a saint and without him, there would be no club to get depressed about, but he needs to release funds for promoting the games. Development will count for nothing if we go under..we need bums on seats and the time for softly softly is over. If we do go to the wall, I'd rather we went their trying rather than sheepishly shuffling along.
...I don't have a cure, but I tell you what, I have a passion and that seems to be severly lacking at the club at the moment. If PB feels the need to go public with his concerns I would suggest his already crowded CV might be getting a bit more crowded by the end of the season......which beggars the question why he took the job in the first place. It was never going to be easy......but to say what he has done 12 months into his tenure....that smacks of excuses being got in early!
