| our first home game of the season then this thursday
both teams coming off the back of an opening defeat... didnt see the warrington match so not sure how they are going but though they would win and its probably a good time to play them before their team starts too gel
lawrence will be missing this week, will mcgillvary return? i think he will. wakeman?? anyones guess.
roberts looked abit jaded against hull, maybe he is feeling the world cup exertions now...i also believe he is better as an impact player off the bench but has had to start because of the symonds injury situ.
leeming and ikahihifo from the bench again as still not fit?
hope we can kick start our season now with a win! losing our first 3 games of the season doesnt bare thinking about. (st helens up after)
team i see is
mamo
murphy
turner
gaskell
mcgillvary
obrien
brough
rankin
taai
walne
ferguson
hinchcliffe
roberts

Admire your enthusiasm Brearley but I don't think any other Giants fan expected Symonds to ever play. Likelihood is hell probably be out for another 3 months, make a return playing for a couple of weeks and have a good game against Hull Kr which will then probably lead to been handed a new 3 year deal and then immediately get injured again the week after.
Dickinson or English in for Smith

| Rick has said Mamo needs time. Would it be sensible to put him on the wing for a month, with Rankin slotting in at fullback.
Gaskell, and Broughy go well at halfback, and Murphy is safe at centre.
Warrington are still finding there feet so if we keep possession and cut out silly penalties it's anyone's game.

| no mamo stays at full back for me, will come good, has that x factor about him but looks abit unreliable under the high bomb... we switched around players too much last season dont want to start now after 1 game!!!
got to give rankin and brough time not just 2 pre season games and 1 sl game
mcgillvary will be back so thats a big boost!
i fancy us for this win this week...at the bookies prices anyway!

| No Adam Walne as well now. We really are paper thin already. I think we only have 19 players available full stop, 18 if Jerry still isnt right.
1. Mamo
2. Jerry (If fit)
3. Gaskell
4. Turner
5. Murphy/Darnell
6. Rankin
7. Brough
8. Taai
9. Leeming
10. Clough
11. Ferguson (If fit)
12. Roberts
13. Hinchliffe
14. O Brien
15. Seb
16. Dickinson/Smith (Prop)
17. Smith/Roche (2nd row)
Surely Symonds has had his scan now? why don't the club just confirm the extent of the injury and confirm what we already know?
Anymore injuries this week and we could be in a world of trouble.....

Probably because people haven't got home yet. However I'm here and i thought it was a creditable effort, especially in defense. The game never got beyond average but a win is a win and two points, Its difficult to look good in attack against a side that play offside to that extent, but credit to Fartown they took their chances.
Warrington will get a lot better i think as the season goes on, but hopefully Fartown will as well, Well done for grinding a win.

| For me a very average display. The good thing was that Warrington were absolutely terrible. Giants had lots of bounce of ball go their way.
I thought Fergie, Rankin, Brough were the standouts. No one was very poor. For Warrington Ratchford was head and shoulders better than the rest
An unexpected result but now they need to build on it.
Warrington’s new coach seems to have the same old Australian coaching style of bore the crowd to death with safe Rugby and completing sets.

| Rankin was very good. Broughs kicking kept us in it in that middle none scoring section-because we couldn’t get near their line- but neither could wire get near ours- there was a portion of time you could see he was getting frustrated and he gave leeming a right mouthful at one point. Hinchcliffe was again his dependable self and made some crucial tackles. Clough put in a massive stint.
Not sure what the on report was for but cooper and hill were going for Mamo at every opportunity.
We will have to play better- but the conditions were awful.

A better performance tonight although lucky that Lineham knocked on with the line at his mercy when Darnell Mackintosh was out of position again in the first half, their try was a walk in down the right again from a kick carbon copy of the Hull one.
However the pack stood up tonight and we played the conditions well and the defence stayed organised so we deserved to win.
Some strange stuff from Thaler but how Chris Hill was not sent off or at least to the bin for punching was a strange one. He should have binned one for a professional foul when they held on to stop us playing the ball a yard from the line and he gave the penalty so no excuse for him there.
But credit where credit due this weeks verdict that’s better...
Oh unbeliever I always give credit when due but last week we didn’t deserve it this week we did...

And untrue.....
There were only 4 posts on the “hull game thoughts” thread made on the night of the game. And one of those was from a Leigh supporter.....

It’s always hard to ref a game where the teams are intent on spoiling. Wire tried to “rough us up” all game- particularly nasty was cooper pressing into Haskell’s head after he’d Just come back on from a head assessment- and god knows what the on report was for. We were no angels either- we weren’t inside for quite a lot of the game, and we were holding down an age to slow wire down. Wire were moving off the mark before we’d placed the ball off the floor and took the ball off the man playing it to win the ball back!!! the conditions make it difficult I’m sure. But the tactics didn’t help him.

I knew someone would pick up on macintosh positioning for the try, he was on the other side of the pitch covering for mamo and Murphy who were involved in the tackle from the break. He was in the right position and his positioning and attitude to chase for his own try was spot on!
I was really impressed with our ball handling last night considering the conditions, weve handled much worse in the dry.
Thought it was a pretty solid performance all around last night and after a little criticism, I thought Turner and Murphy worked well together and Dan Smith looked like a pretty competent super league player last night.
Anyone any idea on the no try calls, were they the right calls? I didn't see anything wrong with my claret and gold blinkers on.
Also nice to see some camerarderie, togetherness and fight in the team last night. Certainly much more optimistic after last night, the effort was there and for me that is half the battle.
On another note, Warrington were terrible.

Kicking out in the tackle.
And we will have to play better, but all credit to them. I don't think Warrington were that poor. We normally can't cope with teams with line speed that quick, but we probably had more 7/8 out of 10 players than they did last night.

| I thought it was a well deserved win and what I particularly liked was that we stood up and bit back when things got a bit tasty rather than going into our shells and rolling over.
I thought Olly Roberts showed signs of leadership last night - he was directing people and geeing them up and then would take in a ball and make some good yards as well. Future captain stuff IMO if he carries on like that and he's a full grown man now.
Thaler wasn't brilliant no but he was consistent. What he gave against us he gave against them and what he didn't for us he didn't for them. When that happens you can't have too many complaints about the refereeing IMO.
We had a rake of lads out and we played a quality Warrington side. Not many people would have expected a win like that before kick off. I'll take that 8 days a week.
Well done lads.
