| Well as predicted we have been caught out going into super league with just 1 pre season game under our belt!
Hull Fc were good, had alot more territory with a good kicking game and top defence which we failed to break down, hardly made any breaks!
Ellis and Shaul looked good for them.
Too early to really say much about our new signings, i really hope they dont turn huby into a battering ram though..he is the best ball playing forward in the league so we need to utilise this.
tough few weeks ahead with wigan and leeds away, 3 losses on the bounce? the widnes game could be interesting, lose that and Anderson could be in dange of losing his job.
shame as we had a decent crowd and dished up that performance, how many time has that happened, the bring a buddies wont be returning now.
when was the last time we got nilled at home?

| I don't think we were caught cold at all, I think we played very poorly indeed. Hooker should be a strength in our team given the potential of Lunt and Robbo, both were woeful today, no threat running and dreadfully poor passing from dummy half.
I also question Paul Anderson's interchange strategy, first stint for Huby and Koppy was really long, with both clearly operating to instruction avoiding carries to keep up the defensive rate and play a long stint - result no platform, perhaps contributing to the poor hooker play. Our bench would have spanked Hulls if used correctly - too clever by half.
Not good enough, simple as.

| Most of Hull's first team had a blow out game against york and 40 minutes against hull kr so they hardly hit the ground running. If you're relying on jamie ellis to provide anything this season you're in trouble IMO. Nowhere near good enough to be a starting SL half back

| It is hard how much to read into it. We were poor no doubt about that, a lot slower to play the ball than Hull, in some parts due to Hull, but if thats the case make the ref give you the penalties, we just lacked real speed at PTB sometimes. Even in attack at times, then forcing it. Think we lost the forward battle from the off and should have had Tai on a bit more, seemed to be the only one with bit, and perhaps Mullaly. Same old though, wheres the mongrel.
Hull were ok, they were't brilliant, just did the simple stuff well. Murph deserved MOM I thought, although there wasn't a massive choice, jerry was ok despite Ellis' attempted decapitation, also did anyone else see his uppercut to Erol, dirty git. But Erol should have got stuck into him after that, but didn't.
But, I'll reserve judgement on what I think we might do after game 6-7.

| The ref was poor no doubt but doesn't take away the fact that our lot just didn't seem to have the will, belief or balls to put up much of a fight today hull were better in every department although they did nothing special apart from do the basics right.

Hull did the basics. Nothing more. That's all that was needed.
Wigan, wire, leeds, Saints would have put 50 on us today.
We were poor. Brough needs to grow up. Spent most of the game stamping his feet and arguing with the officials.
It seems that when the going gets tough, brough gets stroppy. Not a good captain. Time to give it to somebody else.

| We were awful, Hull did and were nothing special but did the basics right and got the reward.
Terrible start to what was an expectant start, the players looked like they didnt want the season to start yet.

| Radford praised his sides defensive efforts, I can't see why we offered absolutely Zero in attack, there was nothing for them to defend!
Totally demoralising defeat for me as we showed nothing absolutely nothing

| I was kind of half expecting that. Still stung though. Seemed to be a continuation of the frailties of last season . Forcing the pass, lack of patience, brough being a mardy bum from 1 minute in, lack of devil / mongrel / snot, line speed and kick chase not quite up to it. Hopefully just lack of pre season match time, as aside from possibly Connor I don't see any player a substantial game changer to bring in.
Quick turnaround and big team next May do us a favour. COYG.

| Hull haven't really got up to full speed yet - new players in key positions still very much bedding in. So not spectacular but thankfully our A game wasn't really required today.

| I don't know what we expected...
Robinson and Lunt sharing the hooking roles. Both are slow, not great distributors of the ball and compared to other hookers in the league they're not particularly good at tackling. Roby did 70 tackles the other night, I doubt they did 50 combined. These two are responsible for controlling our attacking game.. god help us! Don't worry though Robinson has 3 more years to get it right

Makes me laugh does Brough, he has some kind of mental disorder that turns him into a screaming 4 year old when he enters a rugby field. Maybe the club could get him some psychological help ?

| I thought from the start that your guys just didn't seem up for it today and come half time I couldn't see us losing. Danny Brough was more interested in arguing with the ref than playing. All Hull fans should be satisfied with the result and the performance but the sensible ones wont be getting carried away.

| Can`t understand our fans reaction saying the Giants were poor. That was a great defensive display from Hull today, and if the opposition tackle like they did it is hard to break them down.

| Sad truth is that the ref was poor but very much better than most of our players.
Having slept on it I feel no better, we were very poor indeed. That should not take any credit away from Hull who comfortably beat the team facing them. Sadly we did not really test them.
What I really want to know is why do our props carry the ball so little - is it a deliberate tactic or are they just soft?

| Once again our line speed in defence is too slow. We should be moving far more quickly in defence we give away 8 yards every tackle.
However by far and away our worst aspect was our attack. Pick the ball up from acting half, past it to a player stood still. Watch as he gets tackled after making 3 yards, rinse and repeat. How many of our forwards run onto the ball? Actually scrap that because when they do, like Bailey in the first half, our hooker throws the ball so fast they haven't a hope of catching it.
TBF Hull weren't much better, Anderson is right there was nothing in the game for most of it. Two poor sides playing poorly. However at least some of their forwards were running onto the ball at pace and Shaul was very elusive running from FB (he did well to recover from an early error as well).
Brough was awful. His kicks never found space early on which meant Hull were setting up on their 35 yard line. His one touch finder in the first half was on the 30 yard line so wasn't much better.
We never won the "arm wrestle". Then again we never tried. In our first 3 sets Huby had one carry. Why do we persist with running the ball out with our backs early in the game? We need to use our props more to sap the opposition's energy and drag more defenders towards the play the ball. Instead we have two drives from our wingers, one from our centres and then shift it wide.
Finally why do we bother playing Broughton? Not a dig at him it just seems that if we're going to play Wardle in our left centre a left winger is a bit of a luxury since he seems allergic to passing.

| As an aside can anyone explain why Hull chose to play into the setting sun in the first half? Ok it worked for them but it wouldn't be a tactic I'd choose.

| I'm not going to get too concerned about that performance just as I wouldn't get too carried away if we'd won 19-0. My main concern is that, while we were reasonably solid defensively, a lot of the issues that were there throughout last season appear to remain.
The next 4 games will tell us all we need to know.

| Intensity and running speed! Why is it we insist on allowing the opposition to crash onto us? When defending we take one step forward and allow them to hit our line at speed! So frustrating!
Hull were getting three and four into a tackle making it hard to get a quick play the ball and our lads going singular or in pairs which allowed the offload!
Overall I think we contained them well for the majority very rare they got into our half before the kick.
The ref did allow a lot more pressure to come our way! Which at times was unwarranted.
I honestly feel that it was just the creativeness and link that we had an issue with! Brough and Ellis will need time to gel and work on the second instinct stuff that only comes with game time!
Disappointing start with it being our first home game, had two newbies with me today! So it will be hard to convince them to come back without our boys picking up the pace!
