Do not shoot the messenger but I have been informed our new arrival is almost certain not to play for the Giants.

The reason there is an issue is because apparently theapplication involves a maths, english and verbal reasoning test and our player cannot pass the test as he can not read or write well enough.

Has anyone else heard anything ?

Don't see what difference it makes tbh- surely he's coming to this country as one of the top players of his sport- plenty of folk can't read or write- it isn't going to stop him doing his job. I'd like to bet there's a few Wendyball players who are illiterate too.
Didn't stop them welcoming a host of immigrants unable to read or write coming into the country in the 60s to do the jobs no one else wanted to do either!

If true then it's ridiculous - I know of students who after just a short pre-sessional English course are here on a 3-4 year course, can still hardly string together 2 words of spoken/written English and who have had no problem at all getting a visa. Can the club not give an undertaking that if this is the only stumbling block (and Ta'ai isn't in fact a mass murderer) that these 'shortcomings' could be addressed when he is here. Not sure how not being adept at English, maths or verbal reasoning is actually relevant to playing rugby league - heck I think a few/some/most/all (delete as appropriate)of our home-grown players would be hard-pushed to pass a test of that nature..sorry boys, harsh but quite possibly true

Stanley Gene claims in his biography that he could not speak any english when he arrived at HKR - so what has changed.

And there was me thinking he'd got a job over here playing Rugby League. Assuming he can speak English and isn't claiming benefits (plenty immigrants in hudds who can't read, write speak a word of English claiming housing, dole, involved with illegal activities etc, how many alleged terrorists seek refuge over here ? who we welcome with open arms) don't really see what the problem is. He'll be earning a decent wage and paying his dues and demands, how bright he is shouldn't really come into it. If he was a foriegn footballer coming here I don't think there'd be a problem, what's the difference. Perhaps a way around this is for him would be to change his name and speak some eastern european language or apply to be an asylum seeker.

you will find most footballs both overseas or uk are selfemployed so the pay very little income tax so fat over paib numtey on about 200k per week sould pay 90000 in tax under paye will pay less than 2000 under self employed by using normal legal tax dodgers becouse he works for fatmuppet ltd not the football club

The player in question is Belgian. He doesn't need a work permit or visa as he's an EU citizen. His actions are irrelevant.
