In the Rverside it was the best atmosphere i can remember at the Galpharm.
WHY
Tansey and a few others were sat near us, a few who i did not recognise a woman with two young girls all joined in the singing and chanting. Because a few people together were singing others joined in and then more and more joiuned in. The more who were singing then led other people to join in. That helped to create ATMOSPHERE.
MAYBE =#FF0000THEWLIS AND BRAMMER COULD THINK ABOUT THIS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR ALLOCATING A SINGING BLOCK AND ENCOURAGING SINGERS TO BE TOGETHER MIGHT WORK.
You never know maybe it might create some atmosphere and have a positive impact on the players
It is not bloody rocket science, then again i have suggested this a dozen times on here and in corespondence to the club but it always seems a suggestion too far.

| I think the balloons thing really works well. All the kids around us love to get the balloons and seem to have great fun collecting them and then popping them at half time.

Thats cos the singers from Fartown/Leeds road decided when the new stadium opened thats where we would all congregated......problem was we were all 17 years younger and probably a hell of a lot lighter and fitter back then whereas now it takes us ages to get up there

been hooked ever since....shame my other 6,7 mates i went with didnt stay with us but we were getting hammered every week and lost alot of my generation to those awful years.

| The reason the people in the BR stand sit there is because they are quite happy to make noise in that stand and people accept it whereas the riverside its always been seen as the more reserved fans who sit and politely clap, its no dig at anyone its just how it is and i dont think the club could change that.

You do not need to do anything in the Britannia stand. It is not about getting all the singers in the ground together and sodding the rest.
Where i sit in the Riverside 30 yard line just allocate a block of 30 to 50 seats for those who will sing. 5 rows of 10, 10 rows of 5, 6 rows of five or whatever. It will mean some people moving but not many.
You can advertise it as a SINGING section or approach those who do sing. I have even offered to approach those who do sing but are spread out and make a note of names and the club can allocate those seats. Do the same at the other 30 metre line. Hey presto you have two groups of singers at each end of the stand.
These people then help to set the agenda of chanting, start it off, show leadership, set an example whatever you want to call it. It all encourages other people to join in.
This is what happened to an extent on friday as just by luck there were spare seats as lots of regulars did not turn up and people gravitated together Tansy, Russ and their mates and our group.
My nephew who comes to games ( but prefers Town matches for the atmosphere said it was the best he had seen at Giants games in the Galpharm and said he wished it was like that every week. You could see by all the kids around us they really enjoyed it as well. Having a good atmosphere adds to the game day experience and will keep yopunger fans coming back.
That is what the club is aiming for

They COULD try if they wanted to as i have suggested.
Lots of people sit in the Riverside because it is marketed as the family stand ie family friendly, more activities aimed at the kids etc.
That is why i sit there with my kids because i know that being 4 and 7 they do not understand the finer arts of dummy runners and 40 -20s but they enjoy the experience and the balloons and big G and the cheerleaders and the enthusiasm of those around them.
Keep the kids coming and they will be the teenagers of 10 years time who will go in the Brittania stand, and away games and fans of the future. That is how you replace the , " Lost Generations", that everyone goes on about.
The atmosphere can be changed. The question is,
DO THE CLUB WANT TO CHANGE IT OR NOT

| TBH DG i think its fine as it is now , like you said we have lads who sit at the back with us now who join in the singing and stuff who were little kids in the Riverside with their parents a few years back and enjoyed what that stand offered to them at their age, wehreas now their older they want to become more involved with the vocal side of the support.

| Another thing that annoys me is the way I'm only allowed to put my flag at the far side of each stand. If all of us who had flags got together and put our flags up on the Panasonic Stand, it'd look superb on TV, and would get them a bit of a show. I should be able to see flags from all of us on TV, but I saw one (mine ) in the far corner! Do the club not want us to do it?

If it was fine as it is now why do so many people criticise the lack of atmosphere at the giants games
if its fine as it is now why do we not get more fans to the games
if its fine as it is now why do so many people negatively compare our games with other teams fans when they are at home.
If it is fine now why do so mant Giants fans compare the fact that the atmosphere among Giants fans at away games is BETTER than at home games
If it is fine now why do we get so many comments about the good atmosphere when we manage to get behind the team a bit
If it is so fine now why is it that the players welcome it on the occasions that is good and point out how helpful that we can influence the referee like Robinson did in his linked page at the begining of this thread.
Sometimes when you post about how our fans cannot be bothered to go away games or poor little Giants it seems that you relish the fact that we are a little team. We have all followed the Giants for years, have got the T shirts and the stories about how we were there when no one else was But i am sick of it.
I want to follow the Giants when dinosaurs like you and me are completely outnumbered by new fans, fair weather supporters , glory hunters or people who have never heard of Fartown but attend games because we are [size=150successful[/size, because we have good attendances and going to Giants games at home because the atmosphere is good.
You might feel that it is alright now, probably because you are only comparing it with what you have seen for the last 30 years. Of course now is better BUT IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. I want to be like Wigan or Bradford or Leeds and HULL. BIg noisy crowds, lifting the team, intimidating referees making the Galpharm an intimidating place all of which will bring us closer to winning trophies.
Get some fire back in your belly and dont just think this is great compared to the crap we have had for the last 30 years. Get angry and make it better than it is now.

| Agree with dgiant post totally.
This thread started about great atmosphere from robbo and then goes on about singing. Sure singing is part of the atmosphere - Like flags are too - but only part of it. Why was Friday night so special and why was i ho at the end ?
I did not sing - but I shouted my heart out for the lads . Booed the opposition. Tried to intimidate the referee, and the vt ref. Tried to put Brett off his conversion, and cheered for sheer delight when we scored.
And why?
because it really mattered!
We have been on the edge of success for a While now and then we seem to lose it especially in front of the sky cameras. When people have looked to see if we are serious contenders we have faltered.
But this year feels and looks different.
And what can one man and his son do to help. Shout our hearts out and try
and help motivate the 17 out there. To let them know that it really matters to us how they perform and let them know that we believe in them.
To let them know that we believe they can be truly successful.

| i didnt mean the atmosphere at home games is fine, i meant the fact that the kids from the RS grow up and move over to the KBS and join in the singing when there older which means that we are gaining more singers and therefore the atmosphere will improve because of this.
I would love to see and hear the Galpharm like it was on friday at every home match, i return from every game home and away without a voice due to all the shouting and singing i do, i just wish every other supporter could say the same as it showed on friday what a bit of support for the team means to the players.

Fair enough. I misunderstood your post. My concern is that lots of kids come to games some will stay with it and many will drift away. I just think that if we can maintain the atmosphere we had on Friday we will keep a higher % that we might otherwise lose.
If the club could be more proactive on this i think the benefits would be there for all to see.
Although the club does some good things ( balloons, rugby balls, the hilarious half time entertainment with the two fans on friday was a classic) i feel they could do more for no extra cost and very little extra work.
