Quote Huddersfield Giants have released Martin Aspinwall by mutual consent with injury ruling him out for the next few weeks.
Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis confirmed to www.giantsrl.com that Aspinwall had already been informed that he would was not to be offered a deal for the 2011 season irrespective of today’s news.
“Martin has been a good player for us over a number of years now. However, with the emergence of younger players such as Leroy Cudjoe and Jermaine McGillvary in the wing position, and Larne Patrick and Jacob Fairbank in the back row area along with the marquee signing of Luke O'Donnell, which had been planned for a good while, we informed Martin’s manager some time ago that we would not be able to offer a suitable contract for the 2011 campaign. This is a scenario that will happen at every club who has good young players pushing for first team contracts and is, to some degree, what the salary cap is all about in that it evens up the distribution of talent. Martin will be a fine acquisition for any club and he leaves with our very best wishes and sadness really that we lose such a good player.”
Martin Aspinwall commented:
“I have enjoyed my five years at Huddersfield and have some great memories. I left Wigan to come here and went on to play for England during my time here and appeared in two cup finals which are the clear highlights for me. I have known for a while that I would be moving on and was wanting a big end to the year but that’s not to be and it will be better that my body gets much needed rest and recouperation ahead of a big pre season with my new club.”

| Has been a really good player for the Giants and a credit to the game. To come back from the injury he had and re invent himself as a back row forwrd took a lot of dedication.I still think he can do it in SL
Good luck for the future ASPY and i hope you get another club soon.

| Good luck to him, always a player who gave 100% and agree with DG's comments about coming back from injury and re-inventing himself as a backrower. Would also like to commend his attitude after losing his wing spot as well, some players would have sulked but he took it in a professional manner. Sad to see him go but the right decision unfortunately.

| Someone is going to pick up a decent player there. He has served us well, pound for pound he has to be one of if not THE hardest man in SL. He can take some hammer and he just gets up like he's been tickled with a feather and carries on.

| Sad to see him go, has been a great servant for this club - who can forget the joy he gave us scoring the opening try in the 2006 cup final !.
Was looking like a half decent 2nd rower too this season.
Martin, thanks for your service and dedication to the Claret & Gold and good luck for your future !

Does not really have the pace now. Is a very handy backrower and could also do a job at interchange Hooker

Couldn't say it better myself. Tremendous attitude to the game. Always gives 100%. All the best for the future Martin.

| Great player for us over the years. Left a decent Wigan side to join a poor/average at the best Fartown side. I think somebody will reep the rewards of the hard work put in by Aspy and Fartown in converting him into what I believe will be a quality back rower for a few years to come. All the best.
