| yes i agree - its almost as if he wanted us all to say " he's rubbish, we should get shut, yes your right he offers nothing etc etc"
I think its just you who is missing something cos the rest of us can obviously see what he does offer rather than what he doesnt !!

| Quote ="Ginger_Giant"Where the Giant's have succeeded over the last two years in comparison to the seasons before is in their defence. We all know in 2009 we had the best defence and in 2010 the second best and the reason for this is due to people like Stephen Wild (in 2009) and Lee Gilmour (in 2010) and the sheer volume of defensive work they get through in the number of tackles they make. Lee Gilmour was our top tackler in 2010 with 699 tackles add that plus his versatility, experience, commitment and consistency makes him a good player to have in the team.
In my opinion anyway.
'"
but thats totally irrelevent to some people on here, unless he scores 30 long range scorching tries a season he is rubbish and we should get rid of him

| If you don't want Gilly anymore, please send him back to us. Saints fans didn't want to lose him in the first place and we wouldn't mind having all that he brings to a team.

| Yes you are missing something. Gilmour is one of our best and most consistent players. He has looked after himself and will be good for a few years yet. He is also good enough to play centre as well as second row and a great example to youngsters. I've seen him play for Wigan,Bradford, sts and giants and can safely say I can,t remember more than a handful of poor games and many good ones.
Every other poster on this thread can see this. So I suppose you are missing everything not just something.

| I rate Gilly.
Want him to play for Giants 100%.
Score him 8 out of 10 most weeks (and never less than a 6)
Would love to see him as a future coach for lots of reasons you have said.
You guys see lots of good stuff in him , most (but not all) which I see too - hence me starting this thread .
There is a price to pay for every player that is picked - a sort of opportunity cost - and that is to the player who is not picked and misses out on development, learning, experience etc
The top clubs (in all sports) and the most progressive managers (and we have one in Nathan) see that cost as a high one in a sport that gets more physically more demanding each year (PS conditioner looks to have done a great job BTW) and I think that tipping point will happen this year with Gilly, but hey let time judge my wisdom/stupidity....(please delete as appropriate)

| so are you saying Gilly should be dropped because everytime he plays he's keeping someone younger out of the team ?? surely the idea is to play your strongest team every game .....and our strongest team is one that contains Lee Gilmour regardless of how old he is !!
whoever the youngster who 'misses' out is probably benefits and develops more as a player from listening and learning from a player of his calibre than he would by been thrown into the team before he is ready and has developed!!
not been funny but i think your on a hiding to nothing here buddy !!

| Yes , Feels like it buddy. My approach to team development would seem to be in a view of one, but let's watch this space , especially second half of season.
And btw just placed a tenner on him as first try scorer on Sunday .

| If you look at your first post on the thread and the last one you made last night, they do have a different tone to them as well mate. Your first post seemed to indicate that you thought he shouldn't be in the team. I wouldn't be surprised if he left at the end of the season but I don't think that makes him a bad player. As you say, we have some good youth coming through in the centres and a lot of strength in the 2nd row already. I definitely think he's worth his place in the 17.

| Hang about, the OP suggests Gilmour doesn't offer us anything and not good enough for a team - you go on further to say as a team the Giants should be more ambitious.
Your tune changes slightly to then say playing him is an "opportunity cost" as we are not playing one of our younger rising stars.
However you've now put £10 on him to score the first try on Sunday?
Am [iI[/i missing something? I'm a bit lost...

| It isn't a revolution in thinking to deduce that as time passes the older players will eventually fade out of the picture and be replaced by younger players that have learned from other players as well as from the coaches and their own experience. That is not a display of wisdom or stupidity, it's just stating the obvious.
The signing of Ferguson makes it, IMO, much more likely that Gilly will now leave us at the end of the season but he would still walk into pretty much any SL side despite that. If the price is right at renegotiation time him extending isn't out of the question I don't think. We have an absolute embarrassment of riches in the second row, probably more so than any other SL side. For NB to be picking Gilly in our starting line up tells you he must bring something to the side, or else why would a progressive coach like him do it?

| If we pick Gilmour in the centres, then for me there is nobody who is fit that is currently more able than him in that position at the Giants. I'm really not sure about Cudjoe and Lawrence playing there, I don't think they have enough guile and grit to be effective there (I say that and Cudjoe at least will play a blinder at the weekend!). Perhaps we do have stronger options in the forwards, but Gilmour is still a class act. In many ways a similar type player to Wild only slightly more robust. He is a tackling machine, does the hard graft and has a creative spark which has been developed playing alongside genuine world class talent at the likes of Wigan, Bradford and most of all Saints. For me Gilmour should have been made captain.

| I'm beginning to wonder whether I should have welcomed some of these new posters after all. Some of their knowledge of the game could be improved ever so slightly.
I'll repeat part of an elsewhere post:
FOR GOODNESS SAKE, GET OFF THE PLAYERS BACKS. WE'RE ONLY 2 GAMES INTO THE SEASON. BACK OUR TEAM.
Some of you might be interested to know that some players post on here, some read it, others have relatives posting. What you say DOES get back to them. Undue and unnecessary comments do get back to the players concerned.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't have an opinion. But just let your opinions be considered.
Now GET OFF THE PLAYERS BACKS.

| Read by posts fully and carefully and you wil see I have been nothing but supportive of the team and gilly. The thread has turned into one of squad development.
I consider my opinion considered, and equally valid to yours. In fact this thread has modified my opinion, I feel for the better , ESP with the intelligent posts of danril
, Durham giant etc. I have got something out of them.
If you don,t want debate that is your limitation, and if you want to educate us new posters I welcome and encourage that. But using capital letters, bland statements and encouraging censorship is hardly an education....

| I Think NB would put a younger and faster player in from the reserves. (If they were good enough on defence ).
As long as they had the same level of decision making.
NB is a coach who will select the best player, I don`t think he is a favourites coach, so if any player is better than Gilly in his opinion, he will pick him. It is up to the younger players to rip into the game in the reserves and prove their worth in the first place.
