The classic symptoms of denial, followed by acceptance, then aggression, followed by silence - pure whino behaviour.
I suspect your issues Chief Stinkwort (great name BTW) are more nurture than nature, which is unfortunate, but please don't take it out on those kids. Let them have the freedom to think outwards and positively about life, in a way that was never bequested to you.

A course in positive NLP might help you turn life around to a more positive set of outlooks and better way of thinking.
