But that's the point, isn't it? This loophole [iwas[/i legit and is now being closed. As such, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had used it.

It would be very foolish not to.

Also, ofshore investments & deposits are not a way of avoiding paying tax, just a more effecient way to do it, usually for higher rate payers, yes its a loophole, and yes its being closed.

No biggie.

In the long run it might mean fewer aussie imports on big paypackets as it wont be as big a payday for them as it is.

Every advisor on pension in the country got his with fines for pension review, DBS got charged the most because at the time they were the largest IFA network in the country

Whatever you think, Ken Davey is a respected man in the financial services world, having built up two very successeful companies and founded an entire industry himself.

If you had done some deeper digging, certainly with regard to the ISA issues you would also learn that the fines were much, much reduced because of the level of co-operation from DBS with the FSA.

And finally, making a mistake that is later censured is not a sign of crookedness, just of error making, and given the FSA are happy to apply rules retrospectivly its also to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Comments such as these can only come from one type of person - A Huddersfield Town Fan. If only they realised what Ken Davy has given them - life and breathing space until someone else could take over. This is all the thanks he gets. As I said, offshoe payments are perfectly legal and contrary to popular belief are NOT a way of avoiding taxes, just a good way to maximse tax bands

There's nothing wrong with minimising your taxes; it's the smart thing to do.
We as individuals should all be saving [iat least[/i our first £3600pa in ISA's (assuming we have it!). And any self empoyed person should be paying a good accountant to minimise their tax when handling their income (I hate PAYE!). The tax breaks and loopholes are there to be exploited until they are closed. We shouldn't blame clubs for doing the same thing in their business dealings.

As an aside there is an argument that suggests any advisor not advising their client to put the first £7200 of their investment into an ISA appropriate to their attitude to risk is not giving good advice.
