Completely agree with this, as i have said previously, no other club with an average finish in the top 4 during those years has come up with nothing but the shield as silverware. Sadly we have had the wrong man in charge for the period during which we were capable of winning things, and now it appears it is too late. Brough is past his best, and he was the game changer, and overall the squad is weaker than it was during that period. WE have been hampered by our history and lack of ambition. For far too many people the shield was enough because of our desperate days in the 80's and 90's (i started watching when Murphy took over and have seen our gradual improvement from the very bottom up).
I hope that whoever is chosen as the next coach (and please let it be soon) is an attempt to really shake things up and not just another british mediocre coach who rolls out tropish comments at the end of each match and who's coaching experience is based purely on what he picked up when he was playing. We need to take a gamble on another up and coming aussie in my opinion (if one exists) who has new methodologies and strategies to try for us. The only coaches who have really transformed teams in this country have been australian coaches looking to make a name for themselves (Tony smith with us and warrington, and Brian Smith with Bradford to name two)
