| Asiata will be a miss but I don't he played against them away and they almost resulted in a win, then again that was a week after they'd taken apart Saints in the Cup.
This is the fixture, a win gives us a bit of breathing room, we are in a better place now than we were when we first played them but then again so are they, should hopefully be quite the spectacle, in a good way.

| We should have beaten them actually. There was a knock on by ashton resulting in the final try.

| I'd imagine Mulhern and Moylan in for Asiata and Hardaker in the only changes to the 17 from the London game, if they are fit.
Much bigger test than any other game in this run of good form. But if we can't beat the top 3 sides, then there's little point in being in the play offs in the first place.

Would you keep Hardaker at full back ahead of Moylan?
Can see it would be a more "solid" selection, with hardaker being a bit better under a high ball and much better defending breaks. But Moylan would offer much more attacking threat, which might be needed with Asiata missing.

| So we approach squeaky bum time. One point off the play-offs with four to play (three on home soil - eyebrow raisers all three - the third only as people at the top seem to sympathise with Big Mary Ellen Wellens from Helens!).
Here we go - it’s effectively five into three:
SALFORD
Aug 30 - Hull KR (Away)
Sep 7 - Catalans (Home)
Sep 14 - Hull FC (Away)
Sep 20 - Wigan (Away)
STAINS
Sep 1 - Huddsfld (Away)
Sep 6 - Wolves (Away)
Sep 13 - Castlfrd (Home)
Sep 20 - LEIGH (AWAY)
CATALANS
Aug 31 - Wigan (Home)
Sep 7 - Salford (Away)
Sep 14 - London (Home)
Sep 20 - Hull FC (Away)
THE MIGHTY LEYTH
Aug 30 - Wolves (Home)
Sep 6 - Castlfrd (Away)
Sep 13 - Hull KR (Home)
Sep 20 - Stains (Home)
LEEDS
Sep 1 - London (Away)
Sep 6 - Hull FC (Home)
Sep 13 - Wigan (Away)
Sep 20 - Hull KR (Away)
First up - Leigh NEED to at least reverse the scoreline from April. COYL!

That would be my least favourite option to be honest. Hardaker's form has been much better when not playing centre, as have our results.

| Well it was competitive, would have been good to see 13-aside, couldn't tell want Vaughn actually did but reffing team's call.
We seemed to be determined to throw that away, equal shades excellent and rubbish defence which might have been excusable if we'd made the man difference count and been more composed in attack.
Not to take away from Wire's defence.
Or attack.
That's two points I didn't expect.
Break point to use a tennis term, must make it stick at Cas.
Halton continues to impress, as does Trout/

| To be fair I didn’t see the direct contact to the head originally. I thought it was the forearm to the face on the floor. We seemed to panic at times. Two miss timed passes and another ball thrown out when we have a full set right on there line, all by Moylan, however he made up for it with that tackle in the corner. I thought we had blown it when they broke down field direct from the scrum. We prevailed and I think we must give credit to Wire, just bad unforced errors at crucial times. Wire of two seasons ago would have folded after the send off, but fair play they played their hearts out. We need to win at CAS or this result was for nothing.

| Just needed a bit more composure in the first half, Moylan being the main culprit, and we would have been out of sight by half time. Sadly, we forced a play on tackle zero on their line, dropped the ball, then two minutes later it's 6-6.
Awful comments from Burgess after the game. He should come out and say who he's accusing of telling Trout to stay down. It's truly odd that we have a scenario where a tackler hits the ball carrier in the head. The referee misses it, and it's the person that's been hit on the head that comes under the most scrutiny.

Have we got another ex-player turned coach who's going get his knickers in a twist because they lost to Leigh?

I have lived and worked with the Wire folk for over 20 years, and mostly live in a Rugby League harmony. This week is very different, and accusations of cheating and robbing the Wolves of the title have come from both neighbours and colleagues. Most of stuff being spouted was from Sam Burgess and David Cain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNCHP08FEFg
In case you have not been on Facebook and other social media, the argument follows that:
1. Paul Vaughan is an angel
2. Owen Trout milked the foul by running into Vaughan's shoulder (multiple sources)
3. All the Leigh players told Trout to stay down so that the incident could be reviewed (SL Raw)
4. The Ref - Liam Moore and the video ref Ben Thaler are in a cabal to scupper Warrington's chances of winning the Grand Final
5. Warrington players do not milk penalties by staying down or badgering the officials at every tackle, and in fact it was Leigh who was using these tactics
6. Owen Trout was not injured and the HIA was dramatic effect
7. Josh Thewlis who stayed down on two occasions was seriously injured, even though no penalties resulted from the reviews, and after taking on fluids jogged back to the wing
8. Obviously the Match Review Panel are as bent as the match day officials and have awarded Vaughan a breather for the rest of the season. Grade D - 3 Matches.
Sam Burgess and his comments after the match are on a par with Wellens after the Challenge Cup Semi-final. Owen Trout has done nothing wrong and neither did John Asiata, who received vile abuse aimed at himself and his family. Burgess in my opinion has brought the game into disrepute and needs to be fined and educated about how his words and actions can incite behaviour in others.

i think we all know that some clubs have been guilty of a much more serious and sustained form of cheating than we are talking about here.
In some clubs the value and status of a number of players signed in reality bears no resemblence to the values shown on the P60s at season end.
Plenty evidence come out over the years. This applies to more than one club of course but certain ones would fall into lthe serial offenders column.

The SL Raw podcast is usually very balanced, but they are way out on this one. Not sure how any of the below can be denied;
1) Vaughan hits Trout in the head with his shoulder
2) While Trout may drop slightly. It's not sudden nor unexpected (given it is caused by another tackle), while Vaughan does nothing to adjust his tackle height.
3) The fact that it is Vaughan's shoulder means that it is automatically deemed forceful
4) Nobody within the TV shot says a word to Trout, instead, they're lining up for the next play the ball. If anybody has told him to stay down, then it is from 20 yards away.
I just find it incredible that in a situation where a tackler leads with the shoulder into a ball carriers head, and it is missed by every on field official. It is the ball carrier that is put under the most scrutiny.
It's a blatant red card. Not even a "games gone" red card either.

| It just goes to show that sporting disappointment can cloud both sound judgment and logic. Thereafter its just the herd response to a perceived injustice.
Some fans from other clubs just need to calm down and take their blinkers off.

| Another thing Burgess said, that has been repeated on various podcasts is that they scored 12 points to our 10 after the red card. Winds the pedant in me up, as it was only 4-0 when the red was given.

| The present rules for head-on tackling mean that contact must ONLY be below the shoulder and above the knee. Why stand upright when effecting a tackle unless you're asking for a card?

The answer is to tackle in one of 3 ways:
1. Wrap the arms and drop back with the ball carrier
2. Wrap the thighs together and Walmsley will go down like a tree
3. Aim for the stomach and go up through the ribs from a crouching position
Never liked the stand-up and wrestle with 3 in the tackle.

| I said on a facebook post the moment I saw this tackle that it was a straight red because,
1. Direct and forceful contact to the head with the left shoulder.
2. The head is first point of contact, no deflection from the ball or any other source.
3. Trout is a tall guy and has not lost significant height or is in the process of significantly losing height in the tackle,
4. Vaughn is stood almost upright and promoting his left shoulder into contact with the head, and the left arm is not in the process of wrapping as he makes contact.
5. Trout’s head clearly jolts forcefully backwards as contact is made.
6. Vaughn follows up with a forearm to the head/face once Trouts head is against the ground, compounding the potential for injury after the initial forceful head contact.
7. Trout is clearly stunned as the trainer talks to him. The fact that he cleared concussion protocol tests subsequently means he was fit to return to the field of play later, not fit to stay on the field at the time.
Burgess should be hauled up and made an example of. What he said not only called in to question the honesty and integrity of Trout and all the Leigh players, it also showed a total lack of respect to the referee, video referee, and the RFL. At a time when spectators are being constantly reminded ( and rightfully so) of the need for respect to referees and all persons at rugby grounds, how can he go on sky and be allowed to say what he did without sanction.
And then they have the cheek to go to the appeal and plead guilty and ask for a reduced sentence !!!
