| In less than a week, we've gone from signing David Armstrong, to signing Darnell McIntosh.

Maybe it's given us a bit of cap space. I wouldn't be surprised if Hull came in for Zak.

| Thoughts on McIntosh anyone?
Can't say I know a great deal about the lad.
All said, an expensive 34 yr old Briscoe out, for a 26 year with Hanley in the position too, sounds like a good value deal for us.

He can also kick goals too.

| Sad to see Tom go but I didn’t see him getting a pick ahead of Hanley now. He gave us 100% always. My thanks and best wishes to him.
Mcintosh fits straight into fullback short term to allow Moylan back to 6. Once O’Brien is fit I see him as our starting #1 but in the meantime, McIntosh has the chance to shine and make a claim. A move that puts us in a better position to win some games in the next 3-4 games and have a chance of top 6 with bodies back. He has pace but some Hull fans allude to inconsistency and errors. If anyone can bring out his full potential it’s A Lam.
Chamberlain gone on a months loan also. Not had much game time this season but looked a shadow of his self when he has. Not much impact ball in hand and missing lots of tackles. I hope he gets regular game time to shake off the rust and turn it around.
I’m sensing something else may be brewing

| In isolation, I think it's a fairly underwhelming signing. Not sure McIntosh will get into the side. Haven't seen him play full back, but he certainly doesn't take a wing spot.
That said, we've replaced a 33 year old with a 26 year old and if it does end up being part of freeing up cap space to bring a bigger signing in, then it's a good bit of business.

| looking like dwyer was a waste of cap a ccup gamble that didnt pay off. what we needed was a three quarter who had some pace and preferably kicks goals but weve needed that since reynolds left

I wouldn't say he was a waste on the cap. Our first choice 9 is still out, and we've relased Mellor and Smith recently. I know Davis and McNamara have been earmarked to play there, but Ipape and Dwyer would be a much better combination.

TBF - Lady luck has been against us so far this season, and we are halfway through a 5 year plan, and still building. I feel a purple patch is just around the corner. COYL.

| For me Ipape and Dwyer are the best 9 combination in the league. He’s played some very long minutes and stood out for me so far.
Looking forward to the pair rolling behind a full/fit pack.

| but its a salary cap sport and suddenly we are up to top our needswere other than hooker and we are likely to have won a couple of games if we had spent correctly.maybe we could have done it another road and got rid of the value that was in breach of contract before the season started might then have had some money in kitty to cover emrgencies

| Estimated Salary Spend. Hull FC Chairman said the report is nowhere near correct. Tex Hoy and Nu Brown were taking a huge chunk of the cap and it is easy to see why they got rid.
It is easy to see how quickly the cap fills, with soft cap at £2.1 million and a squad of 33, that is an average of £63.6K per player. That is why teams load up with youngsters on between £15K and £25K.

| Dwyer was likely hitting our salary cap even when on loan. If we'd not signed him, either on loan or permanently, and used that cap space on a new outside back or full back, I doubt we would've won many games. In fact Dwyer played a big role in the win at Hull, and given Lam was also out of that game I'm not sure who would've played in his place. Don't think we'd win many games with a hooker combination of Davis and McNamara.
The renewed contract of Nakubuwai continues to be the most frustrating one for me.

| I don’t know what we must be paying some squad members, but I’m surprised we are up to the cap. Huddersfield have more or less 40 in their squad and still keep signing and other teams seem to have plenty of star players, but no mention of salary cap issues. Thoughts everyone.

The fact that we haven't had an academy for years will be part of it. There is a marquee option for club trained players, and I think there might be other salary cap dispensations. The decision to scrap the reserves in 2016 was always going to bite us in the long term.
On top of that, the squad we assembled for 2023 was mostly signed up during the 2022 season when we were in the championship. We will have needed to offer big money to secure those signings while not being certain of being in Super League. I think there will be a fair few departures at the end of this year, which will give Chester more room to work with when assembling the squad for 2025. But his three main priorities ought to be getting contracts signed by Lam Snr, Amone and Asiata.

| Without an Academy, Leigh are unable to drip-feed any cheap young players. In order to build a team from scratch, Chezzy would have enticed players with £5-10K more than they are on at other clubs. 33 x £10K adds up to £330K more than the big clubs who can pay 17 year olds just over minimum wage.
The best example I can give is Oliver Partington who came through the Wigan system aged 23/24 at the time of his move and would have been looking to be paid properly. Wigan with the incremental increases might have been willing to offer £50K a season, but Salford could offer £75-80K. Wigan drip-feed from the Academy - Salford got a player coming into his peak.
The same would have happened to Shorrocks.

| Do Leigh actually have any Marquee signings? The assumption is that Lockie takes the Fed trained position (£100K) and Moylan is the Marquee player (£150K).
