For my money, now would be the time to appoint Keiron Purtill as head coach. In his short, caretaker spell, he has sorted out the team spirit, and defence, and has made the attack far more potent. It's a refreshing change to have a former half back, (and Leyther) in charge.

Here's hoping the owner abandons his search for a head coach and gives the job to Keiron - bringing someone new in now, could undo all the good of the last four matches!

Does he want it though? He’s spent his whole coaching career as an assistant, and a good one at that. He’s done a good job of setting up the infrastructure of the youth and reserve teams. Sometimes it is better to be in the background than in the firing line 24/7. I’d be happy if he was given the job but sometimes Coaches enjoy just being coaches. Norman Turley is the prime example.

He's working well with whats in place. I dont think DB would back what he wanted to do. We are in a transitional period at present and need to continue with what we have. If he hits top 4,then give the lad the job.

We never used to get it delivered, but when the Leigh Reporter 'packed in'...suddenly we did !

Hes a proven number two. Its up to him to prove different. The goal would be set at top 4.

Which is when the other coaches, who haven't shown interest, would suddenly be interested in the job!



Keiron seems to have worked wonders in improving areas where we have been seriously lacking. We can now seem good structures in defence and attack. A new coach would almost certainly start imposing his own ideas - and I wonder how that would affect things, certainly in the short term? We have no wiggle room for experimenting.

I'd give it to Purtill for 6 months, he has all the experience needed to step up, and has been doing a good job so far.

Watching them yesterday, if they can cut out the stupid errors and get their completion rate up, we'll be a hard team to beat.

I think we are going to have to run with KP whether we want to or not, which other or high profile coach with any sense would want to take on the challenge. Mr B. has already stated that finishing outside of the top 4 would be untenable for him to carry on "investing in the club" that means if contracts can't be met there is every chance that without a new owner we could be staring down the barrel of administration, surely any coach would require a bit more certainty of his future before commiting himself.

There has been a definite improvement in our performances since KP took charge of the team. Defence has been much improved. There is still work to do in attack re completions, but overall i have been impressed with the upturn in our fortunes. There is a togetherness in the team that wasn't there earlier in the season and he must take credit for that.
I think we should stick with him and give him the Head Coach job. Bringing someone else in may upset the good team spirit he has created.

In terms of completions, both teams suffered from the very wet pitch and incessant rain. Nevertheless, we haven't been all that respectful of possession in drier conditions. Oh, and I do wish we would cut out the short side play, on scrums ten metres from our own line - a play that invariably ends up in touch! (have our opponents been studying that move?

) And, when we are awarded a penalty in front of the posts, and we have decided not to 'take the two', I wish we wouldn't lose the ball on the first play!



But I'm nit-picking here. Yesterday was the latest in an improving series of performances. Keep it up lads, because we have a few 'testing' away fixtures on the horizon.

Agree with keeping purts till end of season seems to have got the lads believing in themselves again they was low on confidence

Totally agree-beating London was a big big win.

I am all for promoting KP but lets wait till the end of the season, not just after 4 games

I agree, it will serve to keep KP on his toes and help prevent the players becoming flippant

Perhaps the goal may have to be form that would have been top four had he been in charge all season. He can do nothing about mistakes already made.
