| On Sky on Thursday night the commentators said how the penalty average in all games has rocketed this season. So its not just us its every team although it should be addressed and sorted

Dont think that's particularly fair when we won the penalty count against bradford and sheffield! There was alot of penalties today i feel due to the higher standard of refereeing. Which players aren't used to as we normally have sub standard referees. Silverwood made for a faster game hence the numerous penalties at the ruck. Wish people would get behind the team instead of still finding things to whinge about after the lads came from begind at arguably one of the toughest away days in this league.

Sheffield we lost the penalty count 8 - 16 in their favour.
I am 100% behind the team but today we could easily have blown it with the amount of pens we gave away. A better Fax attack or a lesser Leigh defence and we would have been punished.
In the end we won so all is well. Still feel it needs addressing though. A FT team shouldn't be losing the penalty count nearly every week. Just piling unnecessary pressure on ourselves.

| Think our discipline has improved & we're now giving away more silly technical offenses than actual indiscipline. However it does need sorting, teams are making most of their ground on the back of penalties. The problem was highlighted today though with how we tackled. Fax put 4 men in every tackle, forced us on our backs and dominated the ruck, we had one or two men trying to make the tackle with their fingertips, losing the ruck then having to leap up quick as Fax were trying to get up. We need to be putting more men in the tackle & using the very powerful forwards we have to win the ruck rather than using their skill to put one less man in the tackle.

Spot on regarding the Fax tackle, whenever they can that's exactly what they do.
It's something that RM has encouraged to try and control the ruck.
You know these guys study most everything and apparently the stats show that apart from dominating the ruck the ref usually allows up to 3 seconds longer for the players to disengage if there are 4 in the tackle against 2 in the tackle.
Still hasn't helped with the results though.

| Fax also fall into the tackle to get a QPTB, you never hear surrender though. The biggest issue anyone will have is consistency

Correct. I thought Silverwood was very lenient in the 1st half when it came to getting Leigh back onside and to stand square when they had lost the tackle. As another poster picked up on Fax are very good at hitting their fronts in the tackle and although he mentioned it as a surrender tackle its all about winning the initial impact and we did that very well in the first half. Full time fitness told in the 2nd and we were unable to do that and Leigh had too much for us in the end.

| From my position on halfway I had a good view of the teams defensive lines and Fax, were allowed to be all over us by 'Dickie', how many times did you see our experienced International players questioning 'Dickie's' decisions and asking for explanations? Don't condem our team and their discipline outright, sometimes the Ref is wrong too!

| Irrespective of the performances of the various referees, the discipline is poor and fortunately the defence is coping with the extra work that the stupid penalties incur. It is surely time the back room staff gave some attention to the problem.

I don't think our discipline has been any worse than any other team we've played, It's the inconsistency of the referees decisions.

If you are blaming inconsistency of referees then the penalty count could have been higher or not, so it isn't a reason. Your assertion that we haven't been any worse than others isn't back up by the penalty counts. It is silly, obvious penalties that need eliminating.

Well I'm sorry, but, the officiating against Sheffield and more so against London is nothing short of shocking.
Just one example in the Sheffield game was, Most of the Sheffield players were stood a meter in front of C Kendall (He was stood 10 back not 12) and let play go TWICE when we were on their 20 line. The very next set for Sheffield in the same area, he gave Leigh offside immediately against Leigh, then they kick for touch and all the pressure is off them, and yes it does work both ways. The game atm is being smothered with too many technical offences, And that's what I meant by the inconsistency. And that's the obvious that needs eliminating, and the ref needs to get a grip with it.
A prime example of excellent officiating was B Thaler - Wigan v Leeds. He interacts very well with the players, has total control of the game, and then the players respect him and the game they are playing in.
And then we get that buffoon Childs on Saturday in France waving his hand like a windmill,Team warning. YET AGAIN.

| If we went penalty free we would be unbeatable as our opposition can't gain field position without the pens ! Refs unfortunately don't operate like for like and that's when the frustrations arise !

| Reffy I admire your stance on defending the officials but the first half v London from the departed Stokes, not Doris, must be in the Top 10 of the most inept 40 mins.

| Not defending the refs at all, I agreed with the comments about Stokes, but we have to admit that there is a problem with giving avoidable penalties away irrespective of how the referee performs. If you don't accept that there is a problem then you won't fix it.

| There's definitely a problem around the ruck, whether its a training ground plan that's not working or just stupidity I'm not sure.
