Whilst I don't see Tom as 'that sort of player', he did commit a dangerous tackle. However, the RFL don't seem to take into account, a previously unblemished record. A dangerous tackle, yes - but I also feel the punishment of two matches, (reduced to one, because of an early guilty plea) is a bit harsh in his case.

Yes and punished. Being a Leigh player is not an excuse or a special circumstance.

Seriously though, maybe there is a case to differentiate between the player who has a 'history' of offences, and the 'first offender'? Then, if the player commits a similar offence in the future, his previous record should be taken into account.

I would do it the other way, Alan. Punish the offence according to the guideline for a first offence then increase the punishment for repeat offences.

Which is, I guess, the way it is working.
