I think it would be better,to share with us what exactly the brief was for the stewards prior to the game.What exactly were they serching for?

Anyone who thinks it was an issue should try being an away supporter at any local football games.

We're not away supporters at a football game though, we're Leigh rugby league supporters & in 15 years of being a season ticket holder I've seen trouble once, away at Featherstone. Fortunately I've never experienced anything from the stewards in West Stand South, but still pat downs & the number of stewards per supporter on the pitch at the end (which must be more than I've ever seen at any other event) seems massively disproportionate to what there's ever been any sign of being required. Must be a huge pointless expense.

Does that mean we are different to everyone else?

I'm sure it would help matters no end had it been communicated beforehand that these searches would take place etc.

Wonder if the LSV chiefs saw Bournemouth's pitch invasion last night...!

I honestly just don't know what the issue is.

Unfortunately its part of todays life, we at work have the right to stop and search without warning, and the wife works at ASDA and they often have random bag checks.

I think the stewards in general do a splendid job. My only concern is the cost factor and the number employed which is substantially disproportionate to the number actually required. ASDA pulls in huge crowds GLOW on Saturday's but do not need 100 stewards patrolling the car park and store.

Now I know Leigh RLFC do not directly pick up the stewarding tab but it is still paid out of a central 'pot'

I guess its difficult to gauge how many Stewards are needed, LSV got blamed by some for not having enough at the Widnes pitch invasion.

And flares etc which use to only be a continental football activity, has had at least two recent incidents in RL, Warrington v Widnes and Cas v Wakey.

If LSV is to put itself forward for the big occasions (England games etc) then maybe it wants to show, that it can control things.

The stewards on the North Stand also have to be spread out evenly by Parky Pig some weeks too.

The stewards line up was a complete shambles without his organisation.

Come to think of it, I didn't see Parky either this week...

Probably a crack down by the safety officer after the salford fans let off the smoke canister in the South Stand in the challenge cup.

Not a problem with Bag searches but why a " pat down search" when you`re neither possessing a jacket or bag?.....

Talking of the need for stewards, was there an 'incident' in the West Stand (South) between a Leigh fan and Batley supporter, that required the attention of a steward? Was the Leigh fan ejected?

Yes and we are, we're not segregated from opposition fans, we can take alcohol in view of the pitch. Which is as it should be, don't want that to change.

Reading Beaumont's post on the facebook page though saying glass bottles have been found means it is understandable, word needs to get out though that this is unaceptable & hopefuly will stop. Shocking thing is aparantaly they found 2 smoke grenades! Hope these people were reported to the police & RFL and are now banned from ever entering a rugby (or preferably any sport) stadium again. Crack down on that, get word out if you're stupid enough to try to take a flare in your days of watching live rugby are over. Don't need or want these idiots endangering real fans and embarrassing the club.

Well aslong as a club you show willing to detering possible issues,always gives you the ammo to throw it back at someone if that issue should arise.

But as Matt said above,it really wouldn't have done any harm to have communicated it prior to the game.

Thus ensuring what they were looking for would have been "covered". A slightly extreme comparison, but would you expect the police to let people know in advance of a drugs raid
