Leigh Centurions are pleased to announce that Sam Barlow has signed a five-year full-time contract with the Club commencing on 1 December 2014 and running until 30 November 2019.

Barlow, 26, who represented Scotland in the 2013 World Cup joined the Centurions from his hometown club Halifax and has been outstanding in his first season at the LSV, playing a big part in the Club’s successful season so far.

Leigh Centurions Head of Rugby Derek Beaumont said: “”I am delighted to have finally secured Sam’s services for Leigh Centurions. He is a vital part of the jigsaw we are putting together for next season and beyond. This year he has been one of the best players, if not THE best player in the Kingstone Press Championship and he has a great future at the Club.

“It’s the longest deal we have done at the Club for many, many years and Paul Rowley believes that working with Sam full-time he can develop him into an even better player. Paul firmly believes Sam has the ability to become one of the best players in the game and I am looking forward to seeing him achieve that.”

Leigh Centurions Head Coach Paul Rowley said: “I am personally delighted to retain Sam and have the pleasure of coaching him for the next five years. He is a very popular team member and an outstanding player.

“Sam has proven to be a leader on and off the field and I am sure the supporters of this club will be as happy as me at this fantastic signing and looking forward to Sam become a Leigh legend over the coming years.”

wow he managed to hoodwink another club into believing his annual story of a queue of SL clubs offering him contracts line. You have to take your hat off to him it works every time !! At least this contract term means he won't have to do it for another 4 years.....it was an annual thing at Halifax

It was an annual thing for 2 reasons :-

1) you only got him signed to 12month deals

2) he told you SL clubs came calling cause they did

Get over it mate the Big mans going to be running over you for years!

One flaw in this post is that Barlow already had two more years to run on a Leigh Contract, to which our director of football was quite willing to hold him to if he did not sign the new deal.
The second flaw is that negotiations were carried out by Sams agent.

Would say it speaks far more of his quality of performance this season that nobody who has watched his regularly questioned the reported interest from Leeds, he's been THAT good.

Personally Im glad we didnt, it seems Leigh and Sam are a good fit but for whatever reason Fax(insert 3 other clubs names) and Sam were not and obviously in the end up it ended with Sam having to request a transfer because he couldnt get in the team. He did have a couple of good games for us but was far too inconsistent and when he was compared to players like Ambler and Divorty, although no frills type players we were getting a lot more from them than what Sams massive wage commanded hence why both those players have had genuine approaches from SL teams since coming to Fax.

Hopefully Fax will get another chance to face Sam and Leigh again this season.

We hope so and thanks for the compliment to Leigh's coaching staff Greg.

We may not be Superleague (yet....), but a bigger club did come in for him, in the end.

And he's settled there.
