I was happy for Sam when he signed for to go to SL (even at w*gan) but if he is going to be playing in the Championship AGAINST us I think that is a bit hard to take and IMO a waste of his talents. Wow, playing for Workington is a big step forward for Sam. Glad Wigan are helping his dreams come true

Feel sorry for the lad, he`s got what it takes to make it in SL. I don`t think he was expecting to be playing for Worky at the beginning of the year!

Hard to be too sympathetic - he took the money and ran, and you couldn't blame him at the time. Hindsight is 20/20 but perhaps he would have been better off at Leigh given what has transpired since then.

Don't forget guys, we got a fee for him. He is still a young lad and wanted to better himself, however if he had just been as patient as Chris Hill had been at the same age would he have developed better staying at Leigh? Are you watching Kes!

A few disparaging posts there about Worky, the same Worky who I believe kicked your butts up there last season. Why shouldn't he get game time there instead of sitting around on his butt? The lad is still a SL club player where-ever he is playing. If he had come back to Leigh for a loan period would you be so disparaging?

I like Worky and hope Hoppy goes well for you but Sam was one of my favourite Leigh players for the last few years and I was gutted to see him leave. However I was happy for him as he gave his all for Leigh and deserved to move on to bigger and better things. To see him now back playing in the Championship and at a team who will (probably) finish a fair few places below Leigh is dissapointing. I'd have the same feelings if he had gone back down to the Championship with anyone other than Leigh. I'd much rather he go to Worky than to Fev/Fax/Sheff etc though!

It's nothing personal but we Leythers really rate Sam.

I was at the Workington game last season and you deserved the win.

Part and parcel of being a youngster at a Sooper Dooper League club, these days. At least Sam will be getting game time against senior players, which will do him more good than playing against youngsters for Wigan Under 19's.

The unfortunate part from Sam's perspective is the travelling.

I think it's far more that Wigan paid out a big fee for him and were presumably preparing him for first team rugby, only for him to be sent out on dual. Not sure though whether that's worse than the previously rumoured loan move to London.

How many young lads have played DC for us and now grace the top flight at different clubs. I think Sam will be right up there in a year or two. Hopefully with us.

But how many of those had been bought from other clubs?

Heard a while ago he was the slowest player in training at wigan and they were looking to off load him.

He will end up at swinton we have miles better forwards than him this year

I don't know exactly Matt, but I would think that there were are a lot of players that have been bought from Camp or Champ 1 by SL clubs and then sent out on DCs to Champ Clubs. What I am saying is it is not the end of the line that happening to Sam. He is still very young. I cannot believe that Wigan have invested in a player to just farm him out.

Fair point, but I don't think he arrived at Wigan with quite the same expectations as Hoppy.

Last season is so last season. Workington will be one of those seven or eight clubs who need to make sure they are not in the bottom 5 come the end of the season. Leigh, on the other end, will have fallen well below expectations if they don't make the Top 2. In a nutshell, Leigh have gone forwards while Sam has gone backwards.

I know it's easy to say in hindsight he should never have left.

I was speaking to someone knows Sam and Shaun Wane well (work that one out) and he said he thought from day one that Sam's nature is too laid back whereas Shaun Wane is more or less at 100% intensity all the time and would probably count against him.

Sam did really well against us in the friendly and he will get his chance, I hope !

You loan players you do not need, you DR players you may need.
That sounds like Wane is either giving him a chance or is going to ruin him as something has gone badly wrong

Lets not be to harsh on young Sam , I for one would have him back at Leigh anytime ,I spoke to him this week in Total Fitness at Wigan , and he seemed happy , he was training with the Full Squad ,and looking good ,as for being laid back ?Sometimes that's a plus , its called Chill Time by the younger ones , I hope Sam is a success at Wigan but if not would welcome him back anytime .

Shaun Wane won't start ruining youngsters now. He never has. Just look at the team they have now. Pivotal players at just the start of their careers. Sam's still only at the start of his so just have confidence that Mr Wane will give him his chance in that #29 shirt. But until then he will need to keep playing instead of benchwarming. Won't be long until he's in red and white again. Admittedly in with the wrong badge.
