Leigh Centurions are delighted to confirm reports that powerhouse forward Sam Barlow will join the club for the 2014 season from Halifax on a two year contract.
Since arriving at the Shay in 2010, Barlow has made a total of 72 appearances scoring 38 tries including 7 tries in 2013 from 15 appearances for Fax before moving on loan to the end of the current season to Featherstone Rovers. Previously of Sheffield Eagles and Huddersfield Giants, Barlow is a product of Kings Cross amateur club and was included at prop in the Championship All Stars Team of 2012.
Head Coach Paul Rowley said “We will welcome Sam to Leigh Centurions for the 2014 season as we strengthen our squad with immense focus on what will be a big year for the club. I fully expect Sam to be a key signing and should excite our supporters after some of his excellent performances against us in games over the last few seasons. He has hurt us at times playing against us, now he will help us hurt others I have no doubt about that.
Leigh Director Andy Mazey stated “Signing Sam is yet further indication that we aim to have a dominant pack in 2014. He’s joining us at the right time and I believe Paul and our coaching team will get the best out of him. This club is shaping up for Super League both on and off the field and players of Sam’s calibre don’t come available to often so we moved quickly to secure his services.”

With regards to a denial from the player, I do ask why we are confirming the signing of a player stiil involved in the play off's and who could still feature against Leigh again this year. Could we not wait 14 days?

Barlow's a player that opossing teams love to hate for his playing prowess & his tendancy to wind teams & fans up. It's going to be strange for me cheering Sam on but he's a Leyther now so welcome on board.

| Big horrible dirty prop
When we played Fax a few weeks back I spoke with Paul after the game and it was his belief had Barlow been in the Fax team they would have beaten us that night as he has great footwork and strength and with the amount of repeat sets they had but couldn't break us he would have been the man to break our line.

Once the story is out it's out and I think he's being a bit silly by denying it. I believe Mark Taylor broke the news on Twitter after his interview with Paul Rowley.
Personally I don't think it should have been announced till after the playoffs, not that I'm bothered about the reaction from other clubs, I'm just bothered about the effect it will have on Sam and his relationship with our club.
However, he should now just admit that he's signed.

Well he is a prop! Maybe he is living up to the stereotype and didn't realise that the piece of paper he signed with the heading "contract" meant he was signing for leigh. Added to the fact he's a Yorkie then you begin to understand why he's a bit confused. |

My only issue with him is his discipline. Hopefully he will mature under PR and become a great forward, he has all the attributes to be a great player.

I seem to remember picketing a pit in 1984, eh what was it called?, oh aye, I remember, it was Parsonage, and if I remember rightly the Training Officer was a guy called Stan Wall, a rugby league referee.
