I'm selling the picture which was made after the Leigh side of '71 won the Challenge cup. It's the huge picture which was once in the Leigh Arms and is now in The Avenue. I'm led to believe three were made, one is so called in Blackpool one is with me and the other is unknown.

I don't want to sell the picture

but where the picture is will be being used for other things and due to the size it won't fit anywhere else. P.M any genuine offers (I have had a four figure offer already but that was from out of town from a personal collector) it would be nice to keep it local to Leigh.

How did come to own it?

I feel it should be donated to the people of Leigh to enjoy as they did whilst it was on display in the Leigh Arms.

Not sure how it ended up in the possession of the landlord of The Avenue as I never frequent that establishment. I would be interested in his answer.

However as for donating it to the club, I would agree if they gave assurances as to where it could be displayed?

As anyone ever been in the legends bar recently? Not an inkling of Leigh ever having had any legends of the game. No Jimmy Ledgard, No Joe Egan, No Mick Martyn, No Trevor Allan, No AJM, No Woods, No Drummond.

It's no good urging someone to donate such an important piece of memorabillia to the club only for it to end up covered in dust stuffed behind a ticket office cupboard.

Harold I've held a few meetings with LSV of late and they want us to make Legends Bar our club bar trust me.

They have no objection to us putting up club memorabilia on the walls.

We need to make legends the clubs bar like MM bar used to be IMO.

TBH the LSV have never said we couldn't all they said was that they preferred them to not be attached to the walls by screws.

I hope so Andy, I really do as some one was clearly taking the preverbial when they named it 'Legends Bar'.

In fact me and my mucker Arthur have vowed not to go in again as the place gets our blood boiling and that is most certainly not a good situation to be in at our age

We need our identity plastered all over OUR stadium and rest assured it will happen.

I also look forward to seeing ' LSV - The home of Leigh Centurions RLFC' emblazoned on the front of the stadium some day soon.

I acquired it from the brewery who owned Leigh Arms just before they closed it at the time they hadn't sold it so it was gonna stay shut. I'm with the same brewery they rang me to go in and see if theres anything I wanted and then they'd give me a price I took the picture and other smaller pictures plus tables, chairs and glasses.

One used to be up on the walls of the "old" board room at Hilton Park, it's was the room with the sloping ceiling near the offices upstairs

Keith why would you want "LSV Home of the Leigh Centurions ", on the Leigh East Clubhouse ?

I suggested 6 inch nails Fred, much quicker, plus once they were in, they'd have to cover them with something, like perhaps a RL themed picture , Dessie or Mick Martyn perhaps

So what do they suggest? ,blue tack

Again in an open LISA meeting some years ago Simon Toone said that as long as the Centurions obtained the required permissions then a sign could be erected, as for how could they put things up in the legends bar I will not put forward suggestions all I am doing is relating what has been said, nothing more nothing less.

Ages ago, I thought LSV gave us the go ahead to use old photos etc on movable screens, in the Banqueting suite. If there is any objection to permanent memorabilia in any of the bars/suites, can we not do that?

Simon Toone has also confirmed to me that they want the photographs inside the Legends bar, there are caveats but they can be overcome, I would hope we enter next season with a real 'Legends' feel inside there.

I thought Roy Jackson ordered two lino carvings from Gerrard Dinsdale - art teacher at St Mary's - one for the Garrick and one for the club.
I hope the club still has its copy - the copy in the Garrick was sold at auction when the Garrick closed; suppose Jimmy Wilcock could have bought it, hence it being in the Leigh Arms and now the Avenue.

They are lino carved by the art teacher from St.Mary's high and clearly signed but many people have told me there were three but have also told me various places they've been or are. The strangest being a curry house in Atherton

What ever happened to the clubs hall of fame from woodys bar at HP? There where a few photographs in there.

I remember the big wembley picture hanging in the old Hilton Lounge for years.

massive club badge on the stadium front with HOME OF LEIGH CENTURIONS underneath it.

Only two were made and as far as I am aware it's the only time gerrard dinsdale Did two the same. He only did it then because Roy purchased quite a few others to hang in his club.
