this may of been mentioned already, but was reading last weeks express, and sheffield eagles announced a small profit, approx 9 grand, now to me this should be aplauded, and clubs like ourselves and other in the lower leagues should be asking how come sheffield can make a profit and others cant. they are obviously doing something right and the rst of us not, its not like they play in a dump, i dont imagine bramhall lane is cheap to hire, its not like they have a rubbish team, they have some wonderful players, and they get less crowds than we do, so maybe mr blackmore and barton and the board should take a trip to sheffield and find out how to run a rl club and make a tiny profit.

I would have thought their GF appearance, worth approx £25K would have helped that profit.

It would certainly have helped our cause although we'd have probably still needed to do the pruning that took place.

The 3 overseas guys must be on a good wedge, especially one, who could rip it up in NRL, never mind SDL!!

I guess if any of us had the nous to look into it we'd find that the directors are putting in a fair chunk of money into the club.

this was the second year on the trot they have made a small profit, so no gf the year before last, they should be held up as a example to us all. and yes i agree the overseas boys must be on a fair whack, and they can be featherstone at featherstone, its just not fia r

well the only director we had with any money was investing in the club, still did not stop us from nearly going bust. no they obviously run a tight and well managed ship, so why not learn from them, i do remember when trevor threw his dummy out after they beat us, somebody from sheffield remarked that if he that is trevor wanted to know how to run a club on a shoestring then go along to sheffield.

we nearly went bust because the money man had to pull out and theres nothing you can say will convince me the same wouldn't happen at sheffield if the same thing happened there

jc you may know more than me, but i did not think sheffield had a money man so to speak, and the point i was making is even when we had a money man, we did not make a profit, they have, all i am saying is surely there are lessons we as a club can learn from them.

Iv'e no doubt at all sheffield are a very well run club and they are run on the tightest of budgets but everything that the club is doing at the moment can't be done on gate reciepts and a bit of sponsorship

Doesn't Aston perform several other roles at the club (as well as 1st team coach)? I imagine that helps keep costs down.
Maybe they don't pay as much as we think for the use of Bramhall Lane?
Maybe, coming from a city (so a greater catchment area) they find sponsorship easier to come by?
Maybe most of the squad are in well paid 'day jobs'......so turn out for the Eagles just for the hell of it (plus expenses!!), so the wage bill is less than we think?
Maybe - as has been suggested - the REAL cost of running the club is unknown, as it's all tied up with the dreaded 'Directors Loans'??

Perhaps it stems from the re-formation of the club, once they'd been cast adrift, following the 'merger' with Hudds? Starting again from scratch, they've learned to 'cut their cloth' according to their means over the last decade......summat we are only recently coming to terms with!!

I think it should be applauded and puts the Bulls to shame.

Clearly a better run outfit than most though headline figures often don't tell all.

2010 accounts show turnover at £645k and profit at £8k.

To answer a question before, their accounts to Sept 2010 still show [inegative [/inet assets (or debt) of £63k.

Until these accounts, this had been rising by 15-20k a year. They still have a negative profit and loss account (cumulative losses over the years) of £242k versus share capital (what shareholders have put in) of £179k.

So long as the status quo remains then thats not a problem, pretty much like when AT was at Leigh.
