| I never saw Charlie play but my late dad described him as the hardest bloke he'd ever seen on a rugby pitch.
RIP Charlie and condolences to your family and friends left behind.

| Had the privilege of seeing Charlie play many times - very hard but fair, and a real nice guy off the pitch. He was very mobile for a 2 Rower in the 1950s. Great memories!
R.I.P.

| RIP Charlie.
I'd never heard of hime, but sounds like he was a bit of a legend. I hope the club can do something to commemorate hime.

| Sad to hear of the passing of another of Leigh's legendary hardmen. Before my time, but heard plenty of tales about the likes of Charlie, Stan Owen, Bill Robbie, Mick Martyn, [iet al[/i - a pack that would hold it's own with any in World rugby - in any era!! Tough and uncompromising on the park, but to a man, all absolute gentlemen off it!!
Condolences to his family and friends.
May he Rest In Peace.

| Very sad, before my time watching RL but have read much about his exploits!
For a few colourful stories try here [urlhttp://www.eraofthebiff.com/p-110.html[/url
Story 6 has a link to "memorable match No3" which makes interesting reading, particularly the letter from his son.
RIP

| WOW!!!
Thanks for the photo of the1952 team - instant nostalgia. They would have walked away with today's Super League. (Once they'd got used to the rule changes!) They woulda terrified some of today's super stars as well - Owen,Pawsey,Mossop - and Bill McFarlane for afters- Fantastic.

| I remember Charlie playing at Leigh towards the end of his Leigh career however, I was too young to understand the finer arts of the game although, I believe Charlie never practised them anyhow
He was distictive on the pitch being tall and rangey and wearing a scrum Cap, I wonder if anyone ever took it off him He was indeed a Legend not only in Leigh but as far away as Australia! I'll bet there are some Aussies who still bear the scars of their encounters with 'our' Charlie and it is indeed a very sad day to hear of his passing. I do hope the Club remember him in the time honored fashion of, a minutes silence before our next game and, a feature in the match day programme would also be fiiting to this wonderful servant of our club and Rugby League R.I.P. Charlie Pawsey, a Gentleman.

| My fondest memory of the Legend that was Big Charlie Pawsey, is of him knocking seven bells out of Slevin of Wigan in front of the main stand. He did this with one hand, the other being damaged (Probably broken) and he then just walked off the pitch and straight to the dressing rooms. A very hard man on the park, bnut a lovely guy off it.

| My personal Charlie story was from my mates late father who made his debut against Leigh, he was a scrum half. He had taken the ball from a scrum and outpaced the defence down the blind side and was somewhat chuffed after scoring a try on his debut, as he was walking back Charlie congratulated him and warned him not to try it again, politely of course.
Later in the game and from a similar scrum position he shot off down the blind side again, after waking up 5 or so minutes later he was reminded by Charlie that he did warn him previously !!!
His description was the hardest man he had ever played with or against.
