| From the RFL Website: -
[iWigan Warriors and Leigh Centurions are the latest clubs to announce their desire to act as host towns for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
The Engage Super League champions have come together with their Championship neighbours and the local council to formally launch a bid to bring matches to the DW Stadium and Leigh Sports Village.
Wigan Council leader Lord Smith said: “As well as generating international talent, sport in the borough has genuine grass-roots support and links into the wider community.
“The council is a stakeholder in the DW Stadium and Leigh Sports Village and, together with our partners, we’re relishing the chance to see international rugby in our stadia.”
Warrington Wolves, Bradford Bulls and Rochdale Hornets are other clubs to express an interest in staging matches.
The Rugby Football League recently held a series of seminars on the subject and are due to announce the venues in the autumn.[/i

Of course, people don’t need vaccinations to visit LSV.

| transport links are as good as any 4 Railway stations within 4 miles regular bus service to site, just off Major arterial highway A580, far superior car parking spaces than most Stadiums, and the LSV bid would be for the 'lesser games' you really must try harder when you troll

20,000? The games between the 'lesser' nations won't attract crowds bigger than 2000

| Often wondered how many 'other' fans do actually go to games on the train.
Do trains regularly run on a Sunday from say Widnes to Batley, Hull - Warrington etc? and how long does it take compared to the car?
I'm genuinely curious but not enough to look it up

Not denying that and think you will likely get a game or two. My point was simply to the 'better chance than DW' post!
Fred give over and stop making a fool of yourself unless you want a Leyther only board? Just making points & conversation.

Sorry J20 but your post was antagonistic and deliberately designed to be so. Either way questioning a moderators decisions is also against the AUP, so he will do as he sees fit.

So 10 out of an away following of say 500?
Looking at Jonny's time table you must set off early to games? Changing here there and everywhere and then of course you've got to get from the station to the ground, 15 - 20 minute walk to the DW, not being a trainspotter I don't know if this is typical, furthest or nearest station to ground, but it all sounds a PITA to me.
Sorry Jonny but I'll stick to the truck

It would get you to Batley train station at those times, don't forget you then need to get to/from the actual ground, that 16:58hrs departure looks tight
I've used public transport for away games quite a lot, much better option and made it more of a day out and can have a 'proper' drink rather than if I drove, the vast majority of RL fans though drive or go on club coaches so I can never understand this 'poor transport links [iline [/i' (pun intended ) when hardly any RL ground has a train station next to it.
Leighs transport links are pretty much no better (or worse) than anyone elses, however we do have a big advantage of having the most modern RL ground in the country along with the best facilities, that will be the bit that ensures Leigh does get a world cup game

| I'd say ours is as good as it comes, there's not many you can park on site for free at and although some say it takes 10 minutes to get off it takes longer than that to get to your car at some grounds.
Also at some grounds parking can also be a little iffy, we once got milked parking near McD's at widnes.

It is about a 20 minute walk to the ground from Batley Station but if you miss that train you could have a pint or two in the Good Real Ale pub just opposite the station.

No need to apologise, every point you have made is valid. The amount of sports fans that have either slept rough, spent nights in hotels or staying at Piccadilly all night, you wouldn't believe. They trust trains and public transport on a Saturday night or even worse a Sunday, when they've been drinking all day. There's always a chance of engineering works, RRB's and strikes on Sundays too.
Like Glow says, they see a station in a town and assume that the Stadium will be across the road from it.
