I'm not a big fan of Leigh's "Centurions" moniker and badge. I think it sounds to gimmicky, and I'm not convinced it adds any value

Why doesn't the club just re-brand to our old "Leigh Rugby Football Club" (as used in the first ever programme at Hilton Park), which in my opinion is much more marketable to potential moneymen (inc those abroad) especially with Union becoming more cashed up. It sounds much more authentic and historical.

You've stuck your neck out here mate, I agree, but most won't.

If anything I think Centurions would possibly be better as gimmicky puns can be made from it where as Leigh RLFC cannot.

TBH I wouldn't care either way if they changed it or not, I go to support the team and watch the rugby rather than worry about what they are called.

I never liked the Centurions tag - very contrived and no real link to the town. Would love to see us going back to Leigh Rugby League Club...

Thought it was all to do with getting kids interested, i may be wrong of course.

We all went when we were kids, long before we were 'Centurions'

But it never worked. Not like we are getting 10k kids going to the game purely because of the Cent-ur-i-ons 4- nightmare

Its mainly aimed at Children and to identify.

Seeing/ meeting Arty the Centurion walking around is a highlight for some of the youngsters.
(Admittedly nothing anywhere will beat Parky Pig and the guy in it who had so much enthusiasm and was a natural entertainer).

If still able I'd have the Parky Man back (even on the payrole) and have him as 'Artys' brother or suchlike charging around the pitch pre match and at half time.

I'd say Leigh RUFC, est 1878 with the town badge. I'm 17 but i like things that have a bit of class about them and a good old traditionalist.

I think that would be the classiest name and logo.

However haven't we got to be careful of how we change our name for 'commercial' considerations?? I.E if an organisation which was trading and known as 'xxxxxxx' entered administration/financial strife could it trade as the same 'xxxxxxx' name upon re-launch or would it have to re-brand itself??

Rebranding is expensive and fraught with the risk of alienating some of your customers/ fans.
We may have an opinion of what *we* would want, but how do we know that is the brand image that will also result in more fans being attracted? To find out properly takes time and money.
At the end of all that, how many more fans would we expect to get? How do we know this before we spend the cash in the first place.
Is it the branding of Leigh Centurions that is the problem anyway? How do we know?
What other stuff should/ could I do instead?
I would say that Leigh Centurions is currently not well placed to try this "experiment" to the detriment of other club activities.

For these reasons I wouldn't recommend a rebranding exercisse, unless it forms part of a wholesale, well targeted change of the club throughout.

This club does not need rebranding. It needs a bit of tutty but not a new name.

The problem is not the brand itself

But the value of it

This comes up on a regular basis - re-re-re-branding is not going to change the fortunes of the club, and I seem to remember when it was muted - at board level - a couple of seasons back, the vast majority of punters said leave well alone, as most people are used to the moniker by now.

And does anyone else find it laughable that there are posters on here that support the motion to change the name, yet have the Centurions logo as their avatar???

So your plan is to attract investors who are fooled into thinking Leigh is a Rugby Union club?

What will sky say on the matter? They have Super League and Rugby. The Super League plays what we know as Rugby League however there is very little mention of rugby, and Rugby plays what we know as Rugby Union constantly now refered to as the game of Rugby.
I think we should also push the wording ''Founder Members'', however some people only want to go back 15 years.
