one hell of a game again.could have gone either way.east had it in the bag at half time,but the miners never say die come together in second half and just comming up with the points,credit to both teams what a show.

It was an interesting match , east 22 2 up at half time and cruising , then miners scored , east went down to 12 , and it was case of could east hang on

Miners scored in the last couple of minutes to win the game , shame it was from a blatant forward pass , but that's life , the ref can only give what he sees , bragging rights to the miners till december

Miners made very hard work to score against 11 tired men! Would imagine the East coaching staff are very disappointed with the stupidty of a couple of their players. The first 2 sending offs were totally justified for blatent punching and I assume that the third was for ref abuse after the last try.

the third was for throwing a punch at a spectator according to some of the people stood behind the posts. very poor discipline from numerous east players, who were running away with it after thirty minutes.

It was the East 13 who threw a punch at a spectator and he didnt get sent off , I think John Taylor was the third East player dismissed and it was for ref abuse.

Think East need to get a grip with some of these new imports is it really what Leigh East is about ,or is beating the Miners to much of a burden.

What did Winston get dismissed for ?

If both teams had just played rugby then who knows, it seems they've both too many players, who have played for both teams, and they seem have issues with it.
Hopefully we'll see a clean game in the rematch later in the season and the best team will win.

Leigh East 22 v 24 Leigh Miners

Leigh Miners made it two wins from two at the start of the new NCL season with another late victory against local rivals Leigh East last night, winning 24-22 in an ill tempered derby game which saw three players sin binned and three sent off.

With both teams looking for the early season bragging rights they were both hoping to get the upper hand early on but with both teams giving silly penalties away the score was locked at 2-2 after the opening quarter with East Ryan Peters and Miners Dale Allred both exchanging penalty goals. The second quarter belonged to Leigh East with Miners seeming happy to keep giving stupid penalties away it was the home side who took control when miners second row Lee Gittins was sin binned, East scored two tries along with three further penalty goals to take control of the match with a 20-2 lead, Miners had Leon Brennan sin binned before the break, with East also having John Taylor sent to the bin as the half finished with the home side comfortable leaders.

Miners started the early stages of the second half as they finished the first giving a couple of silly penalties away allowing Ryan Peters to increase the score to 22-2. From then on miners discipline improved as they tried to get back into the game. Lee Gittins got miners back into the game scoring in the left corner, Leon Brennan converting to give the score 22-8. Leigh East were reduced to twelve men when full back Ryan Fieldhouse was sent off for punching and miners made the extra man count scoring through Scott O’Brien, Leon Brennan converting to bring the score to 22-14. With time ticking away for miners they was given an extra boost when east were reduced to eleven men, Simon Stevens sent off for punching. The miners fight back continued when Ross Bradley scored in the left corner. With only two minutes remaining miners were rewarded a penalty in there own half and as they worked there way up field they shifted the ball to the right hand side, Leon Brennan breaking and going on to score at the side of the posts to give miners yet another dramatic victory against there local rivals, Scott O’Brien converting giving miners a 24-22 victory.

Miners entertain Thatto Heath Crusaders next Tuesday evening in there first home game of the new season, 7-30 kick off at Twist Lane.

And now the debate begins on the relevent decisions that shaped the result.

According to the East match report they had 17 angels on the field and the whole world is against them

It may be that Miners had more desire to win a derby game when they are mostly local lads whereas East seem to be shipping em from all over the place in their desire to build a Super Team. I wouldn't like to pay their travelling expenses every month!!

The team I played in at the Miners had players in it from Warrington and Wigan so thats nothng new.

Not suggesting it is anything out of the ordinary, merely offering it as an explanation as to why Miners may have had a bigger desire to win on Wednesday!
