leigh miners 2nds travel to wigan st judes this afternoon knowing victory will push them closer to promotion to division one of the NWC League, with miners beating judes last week at twist lane 16-10 they can expect another tough game in todays return fixture, kick off 2-30pm.

Leigh Miners Rangers u18s are looking for cup glory tomorrow afternoon when they play Wigan St Judes in the North West Counties Cup Final at Edge Hill University. Kick off 2-30pm. With the u18s finishing third in the NWC Premier Division behind St Judes & St Pats victory tomorrow afternoon will be a fitting end to a competitive season in the NWC League for the lads and with the majority of the players in there final year at u18s level they will be looking to finish the season on a high before moving up to the open age next season.

The action at Edge Hill starts from 11am with the u16s final between Golborne Parkside and Wigan St Pats followed by the u17s final between Crosfields and Halton Farnworth Hornets at 12-45pm, finishing off with the u18s final at 2-30pm.

Leigh Miners Rangers 10 v 12 Wigan St Judes

Leigh Miners u18s missed out on cup final glory this afternoon after a narrow 12-10 defeat against Wigan St Judes in the North West Counties Cup Final at Edge Hill University. On a windy afternoon in Ormskirk miners played with the wind in the first half and as both teams battled it out to take advantage in a nip and tuck first half they could not be seperated with st judes opening the scoring before winger Jonathan Grimshaw replied for miners to send the teams in level at half time at four a peice.

Miners took the lead early in the second half with a penalty goal from centre Sam Shepard giving them a 6-4 advantage. St Judes took the lead midway through the second half with a try out wide, followed by a further try judes had a six point cushion to lead the game 12-6. With time ticking away miners had to chance there arm and they got themselves within two points forcing judes into an error in there own half, Sam Shepard reacting quickest to score out wide, Shepard narrowly missing the conversion bringing the score to 12-10. In the final minutes of the game miners had chances but the judes defence held on to take the cup back to Wigan with a 12-10 victory after a very tight cup final contested by two evenly matched sides.
