I dont like to admit this but I bought the League Weekly this morning (sorry) and there is a letter from a disappointed Eagles fan slagging off Warren Turley He said he was barely out of nappies and that a toddler would have done a better job when he reffed their game against Widnes, the writer complains that Warren lost control within 5 minutes and his signals left a lot to be desired,and he should have been reffing an under 18s match he also said he couldn't rate his performance above poor. this isn't the Warren that we know

Haven't read the article myself but going off what you've said the author of the letter sounds like an utter plonker. Warren is one of the finest up and coming ref's in the game. To achieve what he has in the game for such a young lad is fantastic. Yes he has made mistakes but which ref hasn't? He is still learning and developing and will in my opinion be at Super League level within the next 4 or 5 seasons.

I've been involved in games that he has refereed and Ive always been impressed. His instructions are always clear and he constantly talks to the players through out the game which for me is the sign of a good ref.

Honestly how do these people think referees are supposed to develop?

Leythers should not be reffing!



TBF Widnes didnt complain, only grumpy git Aston.

It has been said from both teams that he had a bad day and when I watched some footage of this game there were a few funny decisions. But two of them he had to rely on his assistants and by all accounts they didn't help him one bit. Warren is young and anyone who can go through a career in RL without making mistakes must be god or a liar. I'm sure he will bounce back from this and learn from his mistakes. Goodluck to the lad.

From what I saw on the highlights and heard on the radio he certainly seemed out of hid depth, nearly every pen near the end it went off and he stood back, a few bad calls etc. Too rushed simple as that, 19yr olds can't deal with pro's who have been in the pro ranks for longer than that and get on top of him easily.

If he continues to bide his time then maybe when he's an adult at 21 / 22 he could be ready to step up and get a grip of matches.

In Sundays Game on Aston actually says that they lost because of the fact he gave them a penalty when they were apparently on the verge of scoring so got 2 points instead of 6 ,but he cant know for definate that Yere would have scored

The incident in question is on youtube and Warren got it 100% right. A widnes player (haggerty) cleaned out a sheffield player off the ball and Warren gave the penalty. Sheffield played on, and swung the ball out wide to Yere but the Widnes defenders had heard the whistle and made no real attempt at defending. If Aston watches it back he will see that the decision was correct.

The ball was two players away when it happend and Warren should have played advantage. I still think Sheff would have scored and then Warren should have given Haggerty his marching orders.

Hey? Yere ran straight at two defenders who would of more than likely stopped him as they were well set. Thackeray had stopped and turned to the Ref before Yere even gets to him... othe rplayers had stopped well before that!

If hadn't scored and Barlow seriously injured then woulda moaned he didn't blow us straight away!

Players obviously play to the whistle but in this case the whistle should not have been blown.

The WHISTLE WAS BLOWN!!! That's why they stopped rightly or wrongly from the Ref... did Yere put the ball down.. was a try dissalowed?

What Eagles are saying is that if whistle WASN'T blown Yere WOULD have scored... there is NO WAY you can prove that as the whistle was blown and the players STOPPED.

No-one backing Haggs and he has been charged with an offence carrying a 2/3 game ban by the RFL... Thamghart didn't even get binned for high shot in Thursday so pro rata that's prop fair cop!

But you can't say Yere would have scored as he had 2 men on him, not like he was running into open space and whistle blown... that would of been differnt!

Listned to radio Cumbria when miners played haven, the commentators had nothing but praise for him they said he was superb for both sides!!

Give the lad a break he'll learn from it! From what I've seen he's very good but he's only human and will make the odd error as do all the refs!

Ive watched that game several times now and Turls has a very good game
