| Was in just as bad a state before the rugby season started (and that's if we include the start as being the festive friendlies!)
Would think it'd be in good nick considering the amount of e they put on it.

There is a trend in your posts, gobbing off from a position of ignorance.
Wigan Athletic Average attendance 18097 (72%) and your figure for the Warriors would be how much less than that?

I take it your a Bolton fan FL with your double dung crack
When DW says he is closing the pitch in May for a few months to let it recover then the Pies will be on the road
And which other White Elephant stadium will only have one match every couple of weeks ( or months if last seasons anything to go by ) being played on it ?
You can see it coming a mile off , DW gets far more money from the Premier League in 1 year than the Pies get in 5 and Sky and the PL don't want to show any more games on tatty pitches after last seasons Arsenal game with the big scorch mark down the middle of the pitch and when the PL says jump DW won't wait to ask how high
Can't see a problem with the Pies playing Fridays and Leigh on Sundays and everyone at the LSV Leigh East included gets increased turnover
Everyones a winner

| Don't think we play at the LSV in July. I assume we told the RFL before the fixtures came out and the fixtures were then arranged accordingly. Why can't SL do that.

| Considering I got 2 tickets for the Wigan V Blackburn game randomly through the post i wonder how many of the 18000 average attendance are actually paying customers and not freebies to make the stadium look half full.

| Latics give tickets away like confetti at a wedding, it must be cost Whelan a small fortune to bank roll them. Let's be honest their long term future isn't in the Premier League.

A good marketing ploy.
10 years ago you hardly saw any kids with Latics tops, starting to see plenty of em around these days.
If you mentioned W!gan it would be RL and Pies , now its as much W!gan Athletic and Pies, if they manage to stay in the Premier League i'm sure eventually they'll reap the rewards and I'm sure DW intends thats what will happen.

| Well if the Latics are giving freebies out to schools etc, then good luck to them. The glamour and the pull of following a glory team is strong when they are nippers. Franny Lee as chairman did it when City was on the decline some years ago, and the dark side was in among the trophies again. How many of those turned into FT fans nowadays who knows but 20-30odd thou to 40odd thou would say it does work - considering its been 34 years since a trophy as our friends across the border like to tell us.
So good luck to them in their battle against the dark side also.

No doubting that Fred, but now they are there Whelan is using every tool in the book to build up a generation of football fans that will follow W!gan Athletic rather than Man U / City / Bolton etc.
They are probably only just starting on the father > son passing on the team he supported as for many years Latics (effectively in many eyes) didn't exist.
At Leigh our problems attracting fans are massive, this year will see another drop as more and more children(and adults) in Leigh will follow Wire, W!gan and Saints.
Tough times ahead for lower league clubs and for Leigh, we [ireally[/i need to massively target the youth (and also get some lucky results ! )otherise the generation gaps become too big to bridge.

| Exactly far easier to attract the image concious youth of today if your in the top flight of the sport, not so easy if your not, freebies or no.
We will soon see next thursday when a 'shedload' of freeby tickets have been given out via The local amateur clubs and some schools.

| Who cares? Why the obsession with everything Wigan. Target 1 for Leigh is to get their average crowd about 2000. And then above 2500. It hurts to say this, but Leigh can't claim to be a RL town until more people show up at the LSV. Wrexham looks like a better bet for another franchise at this rate.

It doesn't work Jenky, trust me. All it has done has devalued the price of match/season tickets and p1ssed off season ticket holders. If Leigh go down the road of dishing out thousands of freebies with no follow-up then we're in big trouble.

I agree.
You need a follow up / proper plan, just handing out of freebies in its own right never works long term.
Have a target and goal of what realistically you are trying to achieve and have a plan of how to achieve it.
Targetting schools and the child pound is vital IMO.
In terms of the diehards, no need to offer them incentives to get in the ground, just a definate need to make them feel part of it and 'reward' them for there loyalty (be it a free Pie & Drink as per Blackpool or a discount card for the club shop or even a season ticket news letter or pin badge).
Isolating them by not involving them in what you are trying to achieve is a good way of gaining 1 supporter but also losing 1 (pretty much what the RFL have done with the handling of the franchising and recent decisions IMO, Lost 1 fan in Halifax, but gained 1 in Bridgend, we want to keep the 1 in Halifax [iand[/i gain the 1 in Bridgend to move forward)
