Anyone know if the roads have been gritted. It's trecherous all around town, even on the main routes.

I passed my test just last week and was planning on going to my girlfriends today but didnt bother, I nipped to the shops on foot and that was bad enough!

All the roads around the Hindley Green area are bad and that includes the main roads.

Not as many as should have been, i drove from Skem to Leigh this morn and only the M6 was ok in the inside and middle lane the M58 was scary & it was the same story on the lancs. Just got back in now after doing the same trip & i still haven't seen a gritter . The Lancs is ok in inside lane and patchy in the outside M6 is ok and the M58 is a joke

I've found the roads have been fine in the mornings, the problems have been when the sleet has come later in the day and turned the roads in to slush.

Been to Atherton today and the roads were terrible. The snow we had this morning hasn't cleared. I also don't recall seeing a bus today. Were they all cancelled?

the gritter was out around pennington (Gilded Hollins) this morning about 9:45 but there was a covering of snow on St Helens Rd by then, and it just got worse.

Roads really bad on my estate , slush and black ice everywhere , was going to work this morning and main road hadn't been gritted , got to the top of Nel Pon Lone and the gritter passed me.

Too little too late and other roads I've driven on 2nite were poor condition , remind me again what do we pay money to the council for ?

It's not just backwards little villages like Leigh whose roads have been hit hard by the weather, we've been into Manchester City Centre today and all the roads were terrible to drive on, even the major ones.

Walking around the Christmas Markets was a bit trecherous too ..... especially after a few glühweins?!

Not looking forward to tomorrows travels. Always thankful for not being a driver as my employment at this time of year.

Gluhwein's not really my cup of tea mate, twas the people around me that had a few who were struggling with the conditions under foot even more than I was.

I have a sort of conspiricy theory about today. I heard a couple of weeks ago that this country didn't have enough grit to see a long cold snap through. All of a sudden we have one and hardly a single road in our area, and that means Cheshire, was not gritted. Even when it started coming down not a single gritting truck or snow plough was out. The gritters came out at about 4.30pm. I think today was just an exercise to see if we can cope without the grit. It took me 1.5 hours to get to Leigh and 2.5 hours to get home. A bit frustrating but if it saves our rivers and wildlife, bring it on.

Course we can , all it needs is for everybody to buy a Land Rover , simples

All the roads I was on yesterday were well gritted, I know this cos the back of my legs has grit marks and I was walking in, oh hang on, I was in Wigan.
Today I have no grit marks and have seen cars sliding all over the roads and the pavements are a disgrace, oh but I've been working in Leigh today.

Stop mincing and you won't get splashes.

Any way courtesy and manners came back to the roads today. Only because people were scared of really totaling their motors.

When we were turning out last night going into Leigh there was a smash involving about 3 cars on westleigh lane.

Thats about a £1k s worth of damage.....

I'm glad to say that LSV seem to have a decent stock of gritt this year. Last December was a nightmare.

That can't be a bad thing Ian - keeps all those 'Plastic Wigooners' out of Leigh

They will have a load of grit left cos they haven't bloody used any !



The corner and the road into Ledgard Ave was like a skating rink all weekend
