For me the best ever Rugby League commentator and a real gentleman Keith Macklin has sadly passed away aged 77, he was a regular visitor over the years to Hilton Park and I got to know him as he used to sit by the video point, he always came across as a knowledgeable man who was passionate about Rugby League, a real nice guy, RIP Keith.

I was just going to post the same Fred he was a tremendous commentator and i really enjoyed listeneing to him when i was younger and didn't attened as many games the sport has lost a true personality.

Very sad news. I remember him from his days as the main Yorkshire TV Football commentator in the 1970's and him doing Rugby League also for YTV, plus Cricket for ITV, usually the Roses match.

| I seldom comment on these type of threads unless I know or have met the person. I chatted to him at Hunslet once and he certainly knew his RL and a true gent. A very sad loss.  |

Sad news and a loss to the Game. I'm surprised that Keith was 'only' 77, as he seemed to be commentating for ever. RIP Keith, and condolences to the family.

| Sad news indeed. I only heard him towards the end of his career relatively speaking but was always impressed by is knowledge and passion for the game. I came across his autobiography a while back but didnt buy it as I already have about 20 books I have bought and not got round to reading!

A legend in the commentary stakes and he'd forgotten more than what most people know about rugby league.
Always an absolute pleasure to chat to and a true gent, another person I owe a lot too. Having seen some footage with his commentary on his voice was so silky smooth and 50 years in the business suggested he was great at it too...
RIP and thank you Keith for being an inspiration and showing that you don't have to be in the business for yourself.
