| Saw something on VT about this last week and noticed a piece in League Express today about Haven selling a kid (Kyle Amor) to Leeds on a 3year contract.
He's loaned back to Haven for the remainder of this season.
He will be able to get first team rugby at Whitehaven next season if he's not good enough for Leeds (basically he'll be getting game time as he won't break into there 1st team unless he's exceptional).
I can see the big plus for Leeds (no risk, little cost, fully grown player at Headingley once he's ready), for Haven i'm not too sure (do they have to play him as part of the deal ?), he's a Leeds player so offers nothing long term, does this leave there aspirations to progress as a stand alone club dead.
This is a "stand alone league worth winning in its own right" (according to the part time RFL leader) , where does that coment sit now as surely for Championship 1 it should read 'SL A Team'.
Short term Haven do well , long term they become a tallent producer for the bigger clubs, is that a club worth supporting with finance from your pocket (if you followed the ready brekkers)
In my opinion this could slowly spell the end of independance for many and the league become a total farce as the team structure (and league set up) could change from month to month as one team gets strong (loanees arrive) and one team gets week (loanees depart).
Are they the first official feeder club and is it a good thing for Championship 1 Rugby

| There is a player in Saints squad that did a few months loan stint for us from W1gan
I'm sure we contributed to his 1st team game time also.
The mighty blues have sent a player to the blue scouser club to give him game time - When he gets back to us we hope to have a better player from it.
I though feeder clubs are agreements between a higher league club and a lower league club. Have Leeds done a deal with Haven ?

"The partnership is great for young players to have something to aspire to in Cumbria"
Possibly a misquote but if its a partnership I would imagine it would mean more are likely............
Great for the player(s),
Great for Leeds,
Great for our league though
If its a one off or 2 players perhaps fine, but is there peremeters of where the line is drawn (could we have 2 from Wigan, 2 from Leeds, 2 from Saints , 2 from Warrington etc, etc).
Is it "our team" players or part time Pieaters / Loiners etc.
I agree Hargreaves came here and did ok, did it do our club any good when he left or did we struggle to fill the void

| Loaned players, its happened since forever. A loan player is someone that 2 clubs agree to fix term of time which usually benefits both clubs isn't it.
A "Reserve" type player can be switched between 1st team and reserve team. Have Leeds got this arrangement with Haven ? If not, its a loan. If Leeds can call him back then that is different. But still not sure what the big change is that loan players are now making clubs feeders. Me thinks its all having another go......

| Its not the first time somehting like this, or not far off, has happened.
Saints linked with Leigh a few years back as hey did with Barrow when they signed Ade Gardner. Didnt Bramley do something with Leeds too?
The big club uses it when it suits then forgets about it when time moves on. They'll agree to a pre-season friendly and then send the kids, loan out a few academy lads who are not cutting the mustard, that kind of stuff.
Same gift, different wrapper.

which doesn't seem too bad until.......
"I think there's a very good chance he will be here for next season as well, because there will be a new system in place next season.
"The Rugby Football League will be bringing in dual-registration, you can be a team-member in Whitehaven and in Leeds as well at the same time.
"He can take advantage of all the nice things down there, still play for Whitehaven at the weekends, and be a full-time player."
In LE the player says he wil be able to gain First team experience back at Whitehaven next season if he is not involved at Leeds.
In effect this player will be a Whitehaven Rhino, get 6 more doing the same in the first team (not now but what about 6 years down the line perhaps ?) and just what incentive is there to sign for Haven ?
kids will prefer bigger money from AN other SL club and still be able to play in there home town, thats when Whitehaven becomes nothing more than a feeder club as Leeds (for example) will always have the ultimate say if a player turns out for them or not.

| nothing wrong with a loan signing........
but, and this is a BIG but..........
the s/l clubs want to scrap their reserve teams, and make the 8 or 9 lads in the squad who dont make the team play in the first team for a championship club.
i understand next year s/l will run an under 20's team and a foundation league
if it gets to the stage where i'm watching saints reserves at lsv, i'll be gone

You know what JC, thats the really frightening thing about the game in the future.
I honestly do not think the RFL care one bit about the game outside SL, so long as there is a breeding ground to sustain 14-16 teams in SL then thats good enough for them.

| its a 12 month deal with leeds for the link up to see how it goes, until were in a position to apply for Sl(new ground etc it makes sense) we can attract the best locals as in the short term we can demonstrate a path to SL, in the long term then if the ground gets sorted etc etc then the link is ended and push for SL ourselves
worked this season with mcnally and hudds no reason why not with amor

if s/l do scrap the reserve league, as rumoured, the two leagues below will become a lottery

They are becoming that already with firstly Celtic and now Gateshead playing to a completely different set of rules to the rest of the league, also teams seemingly having a choice of whether or not they run reserve teams. RL is not the 'sport' it once was I'm afraid and I can see how people might start to lose interest.
Why the f*** are non SL chairmen such mice. Its not as if they will lose funding from the RFL if they voice negatively about the RFL. Any funding available is so strictly controlled as to be almost impossible to get anyway.

I sometimes wonder if the RFL acts as the bully / dictatorship they appear,
Or is it the Championship chairmen are frightened of there own shadows collectively.
Maybe its that some chairmen think by sucking upto the dubious charactors at the RFL and ignoring the obvious they will somehow be awarded a SL "Spot" that Gateshead and Toulouse won't get.
One thing is for sure , this is the start of clubs outside of SL becoming part of SL - The training clubs.

The RFL use a divide and conquer policy
There are the ' bigger ' clubs that dont want to be seen as causing trouble in case it affects their chances of a Franchise
The expansion clubs who are the ' teachers pets '
And then the rest
If say one Chairman was to suggest a meeting outside the control of the RFL , somebody would ' snitch ' on them
It really is that bad
