In what is being dubbed locally as ‘Manchester Magic’, Broughton Park hosts four games of rugby league this Saturday culminating in a mouth-watering international tie. Mancunians RL once again field two teams and the England Lionhearts take on Ireland Wolfhounds in the Four-Nations competition.
In a great coup for the city, the Lionhearts have chosen Manchester to play their first home tie in this year’s tournament. Boasting players from right across England but including some Greater Manchester based players from Wigan Riversiders, the Lionhearts are searching for their first win in the competition. While the English side experienced a bruising loss in Wales, their opponents this Saturday the Ireland Wolfhounds managed a win away in Scotland.
Mancunians RL’s two teams take on sides from Chester Gladiators. The first team will be eager to reverse last week’s defeat by the same opponents in order to take them closer to the play-offs of the Kukri Merit League. The fourth game sees England Lionhearts under-18s take on BARLA Community Lions.
Having hosted the recent Skanska Cup Final, the Chorlton home of Mancunians RL is once again the focal point for rugby league in the area. Those coming to watch this Saturday can expect to see competitive rugby league and enjoy Broughton Park’s excellent facilities including a grandstand, clubhouse bar and hot food.
The Manchester Magic event begins at 11.30 when local children between the ages of 8 & 12 years old are invited to a TRY IT! morning, where they can try rugby league in a safe environment. No rugby experience is necessary and the session is free of charge and will be supervised by fully qualified professional coaches. The first match starts at 1.30pm and the Four Nations headliner kicks off at 4pm.
