Overall points difference will only ever mean 1 point difference over the whole season. Every Sheffield loss has been close, many of ours have been by a country mile and the lack of bonus points reflects that.

I dunno, there's pros and cons to it, I've no problem with the theory but when things like that happen yesterday, it does make a bit of a mockery of it.

I like the bonus point and think it should stay - I'd like to see it in Super League as well.

Dont agree with it never have you win or you lose end of.

Still think it would be fairer if it was like this:

4pts for a win
2pts for a draw
1pt for a loss by 6 or less

The table wouldn't rely on the bp quite the same but would still reward the losing team in a close match.

is a team losing against team "X" by less than 12pts more deserving of something than another team getting beat by team "X" by 50pts? Seems harsh to give those 2 teams equal reward of nowt.
Also the most important bit is supporters. Bringing in new rules to make the game more engrossing is welcome in my book, just like the dozens of new rules that have been brought in since 1895 to make the game more entertaining

I think teams that battle to the end and stay within touching distance of the top sides deserve some credit.

An extra competition point is far more of an incentive than +6 in the Points Difference column.

Ironically you have more chance of getting a bonus point if your losing by 20-30 points in the last 15 mins or so. As the winning team genuinely switch off and you may get a chance to run in 2 or 3 late tries. Alternatively you can be in the game (losing by 4-8 points) with 15 mins left concede 2 late tries and not get anything.

Even better 2 teams playing each other, and one needs just a bonus point to stay up, and the other needs a win and clear of 12pts.

Or better still no bonus point 6 teams involved and all checking on whos winning and losing!

Still, scrap relegation and then we can all have a tea party on the last day



On the subject of the last day, surely Sky can't be considering having one of the relegation candidates play three days before the rest? Would be a sham - should all kick off at the same time to avoid 'convenient' results etc.

I'd suggest 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, or with in 6, and 0 for a loss.

12 is too many, having to score twice is wrong, but with RL being a game where posession is all, the one turn over difference would be enough.

I thought that was voting for what you wanted without threat of reprisals. It was enforced with threats as was the franchising system. Not difficult if you have a small pool of voters with one who tells the rest if they don,t that they,ll pull the plug.

Does anyone seriously think the chairmen of professional rl voted for non promotion to the top league without coercion ? Democracy is one man one vote.

The only team collecting anything should be a winner, losers are called that for a reason.
If both teams slog it for a draw fair enough but collecting points for "only just losing" is a farce IMO.

Or perhaps its just that you don't, and won't accept the word of anyone that says differently. Given that the promotion/relegation cycle nearly broke our club, I would have thought that you'd have embraced it.

Put it another way... if the word 'franchise' was removed, and the idea was replaced by a 2 season period of grace from relegation for promoted clubs that depended to an extent on their ammenities and on their finances being in order, would you look any differently at it?

I would have no problem with the promoted club into the top league having an exemption from relegation in their first season there.

There are several clubs who with the current system have zero chance of getting there and that is the problem.


Regarding stadia that, during the current economic situation, is a bit of a red herring imo.

I agree more giving the winning team 1pt is a joke widnes should be in 6th-7th not third with 8 games lost its a joke to teams who have won more games than widnes and are in 6th!!!!!
