However people dont go to watch a movie because of a review or recomendation, they get to see a free sample ( movie trailer ) either at a previous visit or on TV

Your business is logistics, it is not a luxury item, it sells on cost and service, but whoever uses it actually ' needs ' that product, be it yours or somebody else's

My business sells on perceived value, the same as any other.

For everybody that reads a review or asks a friend there are dozens ( especially younger people )who will decide after seeing the trailer, so who are you chasing? 50 something cynical company directors, or the other 99.99percent of the population, also bearing in mind if asking others opinions ,many in Leigh would get directed to the Dw or Halliwell Jones

People buy from your business from neccessity, nobody wakes up in the morning and out of the blue suddenly decides they want to send somebody a parcel

In my view, what we appear to have on the Centurions BOD, is a group of people who have enjoyed/are enjoying a degree of success in the commercial world. They appear to have decided to apply the business principles they employ in the big wide world, (in addition to putting in their hard-earned cash and considerable time) to running our rugby club. They appear to be following what has proved to them, to be a successful formula.

I hope they are proved right, but at the very least I feel they are deserving of the support and gratitude of those who want to see them succeed, in what seems, from a Leigh Centurions perspective, to be a novel way of running the club.

Personally, I don't believe I am influenced by advertising, or I would buy everything going! What I definitely do believe is that constant negativity to their approach, will NOT sell the product.

The last paragraph hits the nail on the head Alan, you suggest you arent influenced by advertising, Neil suggested the same earlier, I doubt accountants are, within Andy and Steve's businesses there isnt any need to entice the general public, Alan Platts company is a trade supplier, Trevor as far as I know hasnt been involved in ' point of sale ' , only Derek has experience of end user sales

Perfectly entitled to your opinion/contribution. Who's to say which opinion is right? My contribution is to suggest that some of these guys are 'successful' businessmen/women. They all have 'customers', (even accountants!

) and presumably go about enticing those 'customers' in a successful way, if their business is deemed to be successful. 'Maurice's' customers may not suddenly wake up and decide they have to send a parcel, but they still have a choice of who is going to transport it for them. Presumably, it's 'Maurice's job to ensure they send it with his company.

Whether their way is the right way to run a sporting club, is yet to be proved. To my way of thinking, they have made a good start, and are doing things that SHOULD entice customers. Also, to my way of thinking, they are also going about it in a way I don't think I've witnessed in many a year of watching Leigh.

This forum recently is terrible, it's used to be enjoyable, can't wait for the season to start when we get to talk rugby.

You can't cpmpare a film to rugby. The idea of the trailors, TV advertising and posters on Bus stops etc. when advertising a film is to get everyone to see it as soon as it comes out, before they have chance to get told it's rubbish by friends who've seen it. The worse a film is, the more it gets advertised. The fact you don't like the film once you've seen it doesn't matter to the film prodcucers. Once you've paid your money and seen the film, they've got what they want. They're not expecting you to go back and watch the film again.
With rugby though, we have to get people to watch a match and then want to come back and watch another and another. The only way to do that is to give them something on the pitch that they want to watch. You can put as much effort into marketing and advertising as you want, but at the end of the day, if the product on the pitch isn't up to scratch, the people you have attacted won't come back.

I'd beg to differ, this forum for years has been a thorn in the side of the club and the negativity it has generated in the past has been in my opinion been detrimental to the club and it's various coaches, players and directors and the overall chances of success.

I've read it for years before signing up as a means of finding things out about the club I support and often believed some of the lies and untruths and formed opinions of the characters and the people at the club simply by reading some of the nonsense that was written on here which was probably small minded of me in the first place but none the less I'm sure many people did the same.

A combination of ambitious new directorship at the club with genuine transparency and facts being put on here to extinguish none sense and untruths before they escalate has dampened down the negativity before it's got going. If that's boring or not interesting then so be it but the amount of positivity and positive news surrounding the club being created I would have thought would be interesting and viewed as exciting by the majorities who want to see a strong and successful Leigh Centurions.

Of course I'm not stupid enough to believe that some of the people who have agendas against the club won't come out to play again at some point in the future but at least people who know the facts will always be able to correct them as the transparent way the club is run will always allow this while we are in control.

It's evident a ambitious forward thinking well run strong club equals boring and positive forum I know which I prefer!

We don't essentially have a marketing budget or paid marketing team or resources that film companies do either at present and are doing the very best with the resources and budget we currently have. This will change moving forward and more finance I'm sure will be allocated towards advertising and marketing of the club indeed we have discussed this at length in recent meetings but Rome wasn't built in a day and in my opinion sales are encouraging the gibes about the club are good and crucially for our fans we've done what you rightly allude to which is putting the product on the pitch that people will want to hopefully come back again to see again and again once we have attracted them to the games this year.

The problem on message boards like these is that its really hard for people from a club to post on them and be totally transparent. Take the Sam Barlow affair that was handled by a denial that later turned out not to be true which kind of goes against this whole transparency thing.

There is a very fine line but I do think its a good idea having someone from a club posting on here.

Was this topic about 'Brierley to London'? This is a regular irritant of this forum, it isn't tidied up. Topics get diverted by personal agendas usually telling us how good/bad we are doing, all stuff we have heard before.

I replied to a post by frank/salfordlad about London Bronco's failure to build their club, thats all, I follow what they do and dont do, as I also look at most clubs

Firstly I totally agree with Advocatus's post.
Winning and winning well is the only way we will fill the LSV with paying fans.
Second I agree with Lynda this is a fans forum and I also think it gets a bit boring at this time of year. Not saying it's always boring but the best and most interesting posts are when we have been playing. At the moment we are all like kids who can't wait for Christmas.
Thirdly I don't think that there is one fan who comes on here that denies the fact that the current BOM are doing a fantastic job but for a director to say that this forum has had a detrimental effect on the success of this club is totally wrong and a gaff in my opinion.
Third. Starbug, instead of going all around the houses say exactly what your marketing of a game would be to get people in.
Fourth. When a thread has gone so far off topic I think the mods should put a stop to it. As Reffy said this was about Ryan going to London.
Those are just my opinions and I hope I am allowed them. Without being a thorn in the side of the club I love.

.As for opinions and posts on this Forum we all are entitled to have our say ,from Footsoldier to Club Official ,personally I try not to get involved with the Politics of Rugby or sorting out what the Club should be doing or not doing ,I leave that to the BOM ,and agree they are doing a very good job .

If I can help in any way , im always ready to do so , but as most on here I prefer to watch the game every week and give my opinions on the Performance ,whether they be right or wrong .The new season is a couple of weeks away , and I cant wait , I will buy my season ticket very soon , and enjoy the coming season , home and away .

My main purpose of posting on here for me is to give the loyal fans of the club (lets not forget I am also a fan first and foremost and will always be a fan even if not involved with the club in the future) truth, honesty and facts and to keep at bay untruths, dishonesty and non factual information.

Many people have worked hard for many years at the club to try and produce the goods and this forum at times has been a breeding ground of negativity and lies and while not many people actually post here many people read it not just our own fans but fans of other clubs and even people at the RFL.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion even me and that's mine and its shared by people new and old. If its a gaff or im wrong well so be it.

When you type into Google Leigh Centurions this website is in the top two or three hits, taking away the emotion and putting a business head on can you honestly say if you were looking to grow this business and attract people to our great club you would like them to have stumbled across some of the nonsense that's been put on here in the past??

I've read these pages for many years and some of the stuff I used to read actually put me off putting myself forward and money up and sponsoring the club or offering to get involved in any official capacity, I wonder how many others feel or have felt the same??

Going back to marketing not specifically aimed at Steve we haven't overnight been able to enlist a army of volunteers or staff and haven't got a big bag of money either so its not as much ideas were looking for but people willing to come and put their hand up to actually do something. Like the other thread on posters, yes we have posters yes wed like to see a poster in every place in Leigh but it takes resources which are still as yet thin on the ground.

People seem to be too busy to offer help but always have the time to jump behind a keyboard and critise.

Anyway back on topic Ryan's going nowhere and Leigh Centurions are in the best shape I can remember for many years so onwards and upwards.

This post is still meandering on still off topic, when I made my last post some posters came over all precious and missed the point. This topic is about Brierley, it is not about marketing, advertising, attracting fans ,how good the board is etc. The forum needs tidying up, you should be able to read a topic heading and know what you are getting...... at the moment the same boring conversations are intruding regularly.
There were new moderators selected a few months back, why don't they do their jobs?
