Problem is if Mickey doesnt get on with kc (did they get on at saints)and he doesn't agree with the present coaching team and the way there using his experience and knowledge maybe he has thought about going because he has got his gym to fall back on if he decides to play for another season but it doesn't work out

Exactly, Mikey was showing the effects of 20 years in this game, what a travesty it would be to see such a champion struggling, It would be better to remember him as the great player he was, not the old crock he would become if he carries on, you made the right decision Mickey, don't let your heart rule your head, time waits for no man!

A couple of posts prior to yours Jack the name of the great John Woods was mentioned, I remember only to well when John was given the role of player/coach, It did not work then and I can't see how it would now even be given a chance in today's modern game.
Saying that Neil Dukes to me has simply not got it seems the idea's or influence required to coach at the standard he is employed at, KC was every bit as much a legend at Saints as the aforementioned JW was at Leigh, he actually managed to turn those who had nothing but admiration for him to despising him in his coaching capacity, he was that bad, which was evident for all to see if one watched Saints perform under his stewardship. In the recent 'Rugby AM' interview with Jamie Acton, Alex Simmons noted how KC was involved in a "hands on" capacity on the training ground, he should be nowhere near there, he has done a great job in his capacity as Director of Rugby in getting players to the club, he should concentrate on a behind the scenes capacity.
I honestly think if there was a GCSE available for Rugby League Coaching, even working together NJ and KC would not pass it with the required grades.

How do you fit a player/manager into a role that carries a NRL first grader, Mort's,Hood and Cunningham. That's the problem here some of these guys have been taught by the best in the game. Is Jukes anywhere near the level to support the likes of Baptiste? Mickey (with respect) wouldn't either!

Atomic, Harry - on reflection I must agree with you, perhaps last season as assistant coach would have been a better option - but my thoughts were based on not wishing to see MH lining up with Riddy and Hock in 3 weeks and/or he starts a coaching career with someone else.

It still pains me that we were in Superleague without any coaches with experience of success in SL. Was absolutely certain we would bring someone to assist in like Wakefield did with Kear.

Jukes is just a passenger this season Cunningham picks the side he is attacking coach and defensive coach it’s like jukes is a scape goat for Cunninghams actions if jukes daft enough to do this then it’s his own fault for taking all the flack. Cunningham coached all the rugby out of St. Helens and now he doing the same with Leigh they all his signings he got who he wanted so before we start to jump on jukes back we should look a little higher up the pecking order

No not knocking recruitment but personally I would of left to overseas spots for recruitment in the 8s

Possibly the reason they got them now is the restructure in 2019.

To be honest I can’t see them both being here in 2019 cunningham got to be first to go but can’t see it he got someone to blame In jukes so he going to be here for the long haul stealing a living. We might even erect another statue of him outside Home and bargain on bradshawgate

Its all down to performance at the end of day. The next 4/5 games are going to be the telling point IMO.

Does any other club have this setup Head of Rugby & Head Coach?

There wouldn’t be many experienced / successful coaches willing to work in that setup especially if boundaries are unclear.

I would expect them to win the next 5 games mostly against part time opposition that don’t paper over the cracks that’s there

I'd expect a step up,regardless of opposition. You can never discount part-time squads as SL have found out. Not sure there is anything to paper over yet, but as I said the next 4/5 games will tell,regardless of if they win or not.
