| Avoiding all the political posturing from Cherry&Shite, can anyone explain to me how, when our population is expanding, having fewer members of parliament is a good thing for democracy?
All I can see is cost cutting and screw the population. If it's such a good idea, lets just cut back to one MP for the whole country and save a fortune by not having elections either. Who'd have thought the Electoral Commission would support the old Communist Russian way of doing things?
FTR, that's not serious, it's meant as a counterbalance to Cherry&Shites 'politburo' remark, which if nowt else shows how little he knows about either political history or the state of the 2011 Labour party.

| Quote ="FTrooper"Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire.
Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed
2) They MUST buy a new British car.
Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed
4) They MUST send their kids toschool/college/university -
Crime rate fixed
5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc
It can't get any easier than that!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances
If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know'"
'if' we need more money? Where does this £1.1 trillion pounds come from?

| Lot of 0/0 being spoken on this subject. Does it matter in the long term? Boundary changes are a way of life for each incoming government for their own ends. Let's get back to rugby on this forum and worry about what is happening to our beloved team. Much more important than boundary changes - let's be honest - whatever changes are made to the boundaries, you can put a pig up as a labour candidate in Leigh and it would still get elected.

Quote ="THECherry&Whites"All three are still in production. Nissan Sunderland is expanding and both Derby and Swindon have returned to near normal production following the recession (although Honda Swindon still has supply problems from Japan due to the effects of the Sunami).
The plundering of the pensions was caused by the Labour government and Chancellor Brown. You can't put that one on the coalition.

And yet when I look at the current condition of the economy, is that down to the Unions, the average working man... No its down to greedy get rich Thatcherites, no the ordinary average working man... Don't try and blame the unions for something they didn't control, its the bankers, no one else... Try to remember that when your down the soup kitchen spouting the virtues of Thatcher, ultimately it was her values and believes that put you there.. Oh and I'm not in a Union, but try to remember they are elected to look after their members, even Thatcher couldn't ulimately break them, all she could do was destroy the industries they worked in.

| Quote ="TV BOY"But would you if your vote meant absolutely nothing. Which is what is happening election after election.'"
No. I get a Labour MP anyway. Why would I vote?
Why don't we use the Northern Ireland system where they have six MLAs each? Everyone's a winner !!
Except when it comes to claiming expenses, obviously.

| If you can't play nicely it's locked. This is a rugby league forum there are other places for political arguments go and spout the rubbish on those, especially if people are reverting to name calling like kids over a toffee.
