| I really hope you get a game, working with soccer clubs will get a much better profile than being shafted by the Union Old Boys Network.

Sure Wurzel and the gang will be happy though!'"
I think its a great idea and hope the bid goes successfully, The people of Brizzle love their sport and if marketed properly could get very good crowds, on top of that its a great chance to sample some of the west country cider tents!!
P.S if it being held at ashton gate i take it all back and dont support it at all!!

| That's a problem in Bristol then isn't it? Rovers fans won't go to Ashton Gate and City fans won't go to the Memorial Ground. Is there anywhere else with the capacity to host the game?

You really are clutching at straws now!
If we get one game, you'd be right to say City won't promote a game at Rovers to the same degree, and vice versa. But people will go to either or both, as Bristol Rugby have shown. But if we get two games, both will support one another.

Unless they have moved it since you were last here I think Bristol is in the south west!

Perils of posting by mobile - thought you were someone else! The point stands, though. City fans will go to the Memorial, but not to watch Rovers.

You're forgiven!
I hope it works out, I think Ashton Gate is a bit too big for anything other than an England game, which I can't see happening. If it's at the Memorial, myself and Wurzel are there for sure.

| Good luck to Bristol and RL in the South West. The more we spread the game the more chance we have of being taken seriously by the media. I am looking forward to more teams from other regions of the UK joining the Championship next season or whenever. So long as the traditional teams are treated on the same basis as the new teams and we are all starting on a level playing field, which hasn't been the case in the past, I welcome all newcomers.
I think we should invite a few more French clubs into the Championship to give it a more European flavour. Of course we would need some funding from the RFL.

A quid spent on a French experiment is a quid less spent in England.
If they want to play, fine, fund it themselves, just like the RFL expect us to fund everything oursleves from youth development to 'marketing' regardless of the mythical Ā£100k a year.

| I posted on the VT that i'd rather the RFL spend the Ā£ 250 K a year they give to easyjet on marketing the Quins in London , even though we wouldn't see any direct benifit , hopefully in the long run the sport as a whole would see more investement and the Championship clubs would see some of that

| I think if RL in flurishing in another area other than the heartlands then I think they should get a crack at some games being played in that area. I don't know what the leagues down that way consist of or how they are supported but it is a long way for them to come to watch an international up here so we may be supprised with the turn out from a game there.

There's a couple of thousand who regularly buy tickets to Wembley, Old Trafford, Magic and/or internationals. We exist as a participant sport, rather than a spectator sport, without a top level club to get behind.
The RLWC would do three things for us. First, and perhaps most important, it would keep together the fantastic coalition of partners committed to promoting the sport. This includes 2 local councils, the biggest pro sports club in the SW (Bristol City), the tourist board, and a group of other sports development people, including Bristol Rugby, Touch Bristol, and Street Games, who have never previously worked with the RFL in the region. And it's not just about the obvious: for example, we have a local arts centre promising a programme of RL theatre and cinema. We have the council's big screen set to run promo videos at all the major outdoor events.
Second, and closely related, we'd get two years of support from these partners to push playing opportunities locally. This ranges from schools projects, to workplace touch at the largest employers in the region (the councils and the NHS), to street festivals and community engagement days.
Finally, and after 2 years of promo, we'd give the local community the chance to be a part of the world's biggest RL comp. Anyone who thinks you can't sell international sport to a new audience should try to get tickets to the Olympic table-tennis or archery for 2012.
