| The Watcher believes is reduction in the number of MPs is well over due. Every other "industry" has had to reduce its workforce to save money & become more efficient so why not the free loading money grabbers at Westminster.

| Electorial boundries are usually changed by a party in power to make sure they stay in. The last Tory government did it as soon as they got into power. Thanks Thatcher. Never mind having too many MPs Watcher you will be moaning when you have no one to represent you. These things are done to manipulate the vote not to save us money. Also the public sector is in for one massive upheavel and this could be part of the governments stratergy to combat it's effects. As a trade union member myself I hope the public sector workers bring this shower of s down. Non of us should be paying for the cities behaviour but we are and they are trying to make us pay for the lot. Up the workers. Rant over.

| While we are having personal off-topic rants - I am not a union member and I think all trade unions should be abolished - they serve no useful purpose whatsoever in a modern society as far as I can see.

No idea. I've no real interest in the matter beyond wondering why anyone else has any interest in the matter.

| It's not an off topic rant Map it's all connected. Just like I said to Watcher, when they are gone you will be sorry and the only way you will be able to turn to put your point across will be violent because you will have to counter the violence from the powers that be. I used to go to a Budist retreat near Ulverston and was sort of taught their gentle ways but even they had to resort to violence in their homelands because thats all they had left after being made to have it for too long. Representation is a very important thing for the working man and woman and should not be lost.

| The Unions crippled our country in the 70's. They drove global companies out of our country who wouldn't be held to ransom by the unions. It took a lot of hard work by Lady Thatcher to entice brands like Toyota, Nissan and Honda to invest in our country. I hope the current coalition come down hard on any civil unrest caused by the trouble making unions this winter. I would certainly encourage the deployment of troops on the streets with live weapons to restore any unrest. Zero tolerance on these communist types would certainly stop anything getting out of hand and destroying our image as a welcoming, flexible country to do business in.

All three are still in production. Nissan Sunderland is expanding and both Derby and Swindon have returned to near normal production following the recession (although Honda Swindon still has supply problems from Japan due to the effects of the Sunami).
The plundering of the pensions was caused by the Labour government and Chancellor Brown. You can't put that one on the coalition.

Well said.
They have served their purpose and are now outdated. Why should a mass strike dictate wages and pensions, yet the little guy working for a small company that is struggling to keep going can only seek employment elsewhere or lump it and stay. Also well done Ed Milliband today - finally grown some.
My opinion as a working class person

| Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:
There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.
Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:
1) They MUST retire.
Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed
2) They MUST buy a new British car.
Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed
3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed
4) They MUST send their kids toschool/college/university -
Crime rate fixed
5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc
It can't get any easier than that!
P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances
If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know

| Avoiding all the political posturing from Cherry&Shite, can anyone explain to me how, when our population is expanding, having fewer members of parliament is a good thing for democracy?
All I can see is cost cutting and screw the population. If it's such a good idea, lets just cut back to one MP for the whole country and save a fortune by not having elections either. Who'd have thought the Electoral Commission would support the old Communist Russian way of doing things?
FTR, that's not serious, it's meant as a counterbalance to Cherry&Shites 'politburo' remark, which if nowt else shows how little he knows about either political history or the state of the 2011 Labour party.

| Lot of 0/0 being spoken on this subject. Does it matter in the long term? Boundary changes are a way of life for each incoming government for their own ends. Let's get back to rugby on this forum and worry about what is happening to our beloved team. Much more important than boundary changes - let's be honest - whatever changes are made to the boundaries, you can put a pig up as a labour candidate in Leigh and it would still get elected.

And yet when I look at the current condition of the economy, is that down to the Unions, the average working man... No its down to greedy get rich Thatcherites, no the ordinary average working man... No. I get a Labour MP anyway. Why would I vote?
Why don't we use the Northern Ireland system where they have six MLAs each? Everyone's a winner !!
Except when it comes to claiming expenses, obviously.
