Can see where you're coming from and, if anything, should be further justification for the Centurions moniker - maybe a little more education on the subject, as you mention, with the name being used as a result of being Northern Union Founder Members.

Very few clubs tags have anything to do with their club or their history. We've been Centurions a long time now and I don't see anything wrong with it.

I do believe the club badge sucks big time, the old one was much better. I'd prefer us just to use the coat of arms and still use the Centurions tag, Wigan do that despite being Warriors.

Quite possibly yes, why not? Leigh RFC est 1877(or is it 8?) is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world, and we ought to take great pride in that fact and flaming well market it as such rather than some gobey nickname that any new club could use

Its all about utilising fully our heritage in the past and also towards long term positioning (in the unlikely event that the two rugby's ever come together)

By the way "Leigh Rugby Football Club" is not a new name. It was what we were known as for many many years since our founding

If anyone is stupid enough to invest any money without doing the 'homework' well yes their money will do fine.

They could buy the whole sport with what they are paying out for one fusball club, now that would be a great tax deductible expense.

Tell you what - you find someone with several million to sink into the club, and he can call it whatever he wants!!!

I haven't bought a new shirt since the Leigh Cent-ur-i-ons era started, and won't be doing so until the club goes back to being called Leigh Rugby and makes it out of decent quality

I did buy the unofficial traditional long sleeved cotton shirt with only the towns crest on - Majestic

When Frank and I were lads they were the "Comics".
Not seen much to change this in recent years.

We could revert and approach other well know, fairly local comics for some sponsorship - the comedy club is already quite famous throughout the UK!

The branding for the Leigh Centurian is completely wrong anyway, the Roman soldier on the badge is a legionary. The centurian wears a completely different head dress, we cant even get that right.

Thanks, i move to Wales nearly twenty years ago,but sill come to the games.

I just feel we need to be run more like a business than letting the supporters let loose in every department of the club.

Maybe its ok for the supporters to try and pick a new badge possibly a comp in the local paper, winner a family season ticket, runners up a Widnes one.

Such as?? Just maybe if more clubs used the expertise of there supporter base than all clubs could grow together?

I hate sky's obsession with calling every team by their Americanised surname. Has anyone heard someone say they are a centurions, warriors or vikings fan? (or any other silly name)
Maybe the name isn't the most important issue but it's just shoddy, something that even soccerball hasn't adopted.

Like most things we need to embrace it rather than moan about it to make it work, every none RL fan I speak to refers to us as the Centurions so just maybe it does work. I work in Leeds and every single person refering to the RL club refer to them as the Rhinos.

Let push the brand rather sit around moaning and groaning.

Yeah I do agree, like it or not we are pretty much stuck with it. To be honest it isn't the worst one around.

First i dont like the name, and yes i got the spelling wrong, that probably shows how much of an inpact it has.

What iam saying is that we keep going on about the past (80s)when we actually won something. Lets either remove the logo because its cr**p and wrong or go back to just Leigh,sign on John Woods and charge 20p to get in.

Its a real yawn this debate......its not as if the club is called Centurions instead of Leigh. We are called Leigh Centurions - the centurions bit being something I didn't like at the start but I am used to it now. No point changing it it just for change sake. To some we are Leigh Rugby club still, and you can chant the name Leigh as we always did, because believe it or not you don't have to try to chant/sing Cen-tur-ions (

). To others we maybe Centurions, or Leigh Centurions, or whatever.
Changing the name back to owden days won't change anything - we just have something less to use for marketing purposes (if we did market the club). There's nowt wrong with pushing the "Leigh RL" and "Centurions" to give flexibility when targeting new/old fans.
I prefer to look forward not backwards all the time. Same with cherry and white hoops - it gives little scope for selling more merchandise, and the town crest is just that (its not the clubs own identity which having our own badge represents).
